When i put on my heatsink my computer wont turn on...

Yesterday i turned on my computer and nothing came up on my screen. eventually i released one of the levers on my P4 heatsink and then my computer started working again. whenever i put the heatsink/fan completely on by pushing in both of the levers, the same problem comes back, all i get is a black screen when i turn on the computer. Can anyone diagnose what the problem is? I would like to run the computer with the heatsink fan on the CPU properly, not with one side loosened. It doesnt matter which side i take off as long as one side of the heatsink is off/loosened the computer works.

It sounds like the heatsink/fan is causing the chip to be not completely inserted in the ZIFF socket - it's probably putting unequal pressure on the chip somehow.

Another possibility is that one of the clips is shorting on something on the board. Make sure it's not touching anything metal. You may want to cover them with electrical tape to ensure that nothing makes direct contact with the clip..
