1700+ Tbred B and multipliers
Just a quick question. I noticed the L1 bridges don't appear to have the laser cuts to prevent unlocking. Will the old "pencil trick" work on these to unlock? I currently have an Epox 8K5A2+ and love it, but it doesn't have the multiplier unlock like the new KT400/Nforce2 boards. I really don't wanna buy a new board just so I can change multis. I've been running my 1600+ paly at stock multi X 166fsb with zero issues for awhile now, but would like to have the multipliers open on this new chip. Thanks in advance!

well, on both the tbred A and tbred B chips the bridge that controls the multiplier lock is actually the last L3 bridge, not the L1's like it was on the palominos. the pencil trick doesn't work on any athlon xp chips, but your 1700+ tbred B should be factory unlocked regardless of your motherboard, so all you'll need to do is go in to your bios and change it. i've ran both a tbred A and tbred B 1800+ chips in this 8kha+ and both were completely unlocked up to 12.5. your chip should also be completely unlocked to 12.5, but anything higher requires specific L3 bridge cutting to get a desired multiplier (or at least i believe so).

thebove is right - to obtain multipliers higher than 12.5, various L3 connections need to be cut or painted. This link shows pretty clearly what you need to do for higher mults: http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/ht..._painting.html
I am currently at a 14x multiplier from following the directions from ocinside. It worked great for me!

On the 1700 T-Bred B, you can cut (more like scratch open, don't gouge!) the last L3 bridge to give +8 to your multiplier. (Sounds like a cheesy RPG stat )

Thanks everyone for the replies. I was hoping it was factory unlocked already, that'll make my life easier. I doubt I'll need a multi above 12.5 though so I'll plan on leaving the L3 alone. You know, I haven't even had a chance to try this 1700+ yet and now I'm checking out those 2100+ Tbreds that everone is raving about. My paly 1600+ is still humming along quite happily at 1.75ghz/166fsb, so I don't exactly need the speed, but I NEED THE SPEED if you know what I mean.
