    DDR prices set to rise

If anyone's thinking of picking up some ddr ram right now is the best time to buy. It seems that PC OEM companies decided the prices were low enough now and put in their bid, which should effectively raise prices for consumers soon.

    Read about it here.

They did not even go low enough Good PC3200 was still double what good PC2700 was.

I disagree with the analysis in the article. If OEM companies are suddenly buying in quantities greater than their needs at low prices (thus casuing a spike in the spot price), all they are doing is increasing their inventories. They still willl have to respond to the demand of retail customers in a very competitive market. So although there may be a price spike in the near term, prices are not going to go up for any period of time longer than that unless consumer, not wholesaler, demand increases (or the manufacturers form a cartel, etc.). But that's just my opinion.

Even if prices go up, I doubt it'll be that much (unless people panic and start buying mass quantities of RAM then perhaps). Anyways, it looks like it could be the best time to get RAM.

We're not exactly stocking up right now, but I am ordering more than I normally keep on the shelf. I have noticed that several SKU's are back ordered at our favorite distributor (the lowest priced ones of course). They still keep getting more though. I placed an order yesterday, and the prices were even a little lower than the week before. I even bought a stick for my own system. I don't know if the prices will rise soon or not, but they are verry attractive right now. If the prices drop too much more, I'll loose money on a stick of 128 I've had too long. Oh well, noone wants less than 256 now anyway.
