    might be getting interviewed soon and wondered if any of you worked there?


    whats it like?

    I cant say I ever worked at any of those places.

    However I did get this stupid question before

    "If you were a tree what kind of tree would you be"
    "If you were at a party, what would your friends say about you"
    "If you were at a party, what would your enemies say about you"

    Best question on a interview was... *drum roll*

    "What makes you qualified for this job" Answer: "I get the job done!"

    I was hired on the spot, with only that one questioned asked. I was in awe!

    well my second hand experience to you is that youll most likely be placed in a position that you dont like working with people who will most likely not like you to start.

    You will be enlightened as to the true nature of retail electronics.

    You will discover that infact few if not most techs know as much if not less then you do.

    If you do not become bitter and frustrated with your job you are mildly fortunate. You will also most likely believe that you are underpayed after about 3 paychecks.

    Expect them to ask you lotsa questions about what your interests are and what you like to do in your spare time. They will most likely place you in an area that you are only vaguely familiar with.

    I work in "Buisness Machines" (electronis) @ Staples, somewhat similar of a job. Remember, its not just learning about the electronics you sell, but they stress (if anything like Staples) customer service. We have things called mystery shoppers who come in our store once a month and get people in every department to help them to be sure we're assisting customers in the proper manner. I always like going to work when mystery shop time is done :P

    Talking REFERRAL BUSINESS!

    I worked for Comp USA for about a year, and I was in hardware sales. I was told how ot sell computers, etc, but I thought I had good sales skills as it was. Turned out I was right- I took care of people, and actually undersold (people woudl tell me that their budget was 3K, I would find them a system that would do their family computign needs for about 1,800.) They sent me all fo their friends, and I got a ton of referral business from people who would ask specifically for me. Remember- referral business will get you the best sales in the miserable, low margin retail electonics business. and remember- if people trust you, they will buy the exytended warranties (TAP) at compusa.

    I haven't worked in retail in years, and when I did it was in retail camera sales. I have been salesman, store manager, and general manager of a small chain (all in Atlanta). Iansilv is spot on and sounds like the kind of person I would have immediately hired if he came in looking for a job. ALWAYS treat the customer well and give them what they want. Teach them--they will appreciate the time you spend with them and will be grateful. They will send their friends to see you. Retail, for me, took too much energy. I could work in one place for about 2 years max and I was burnt out! Dealing with the public is far different from any other job in this world, but it will teach you just how different people are and you will learn a lot.

    I worked for CompUSA for about 2 years. I was the on-site support technician and must say, it was one of the best jobs I have ever had. Every day I would come to work, print off my work orders, collect my parts that arrived that morning, and hit the road. I don't remember the questions they asked me when I was hired. I had my A+ certification so that pretty much got me the job. Also, I had a friend recommended me.
