Well...performance was right where everyone thought it would be, a tad slower than the 9500pro in most apps...although in splinter cell it is noticeably faster. The 4x1 architecture certainly limits the card a lot, but it is still almost able to keep up with the 9500pro. I think pricing is what is gonna be key here. The 9600pro can't cost too much...definitely under $200 at launch, and dropping to below 9500pro levels soon. It should have some nice OCing on that .13u process, especially if you add some aftermarket cooling. It only needs that small cooler, so thing about what it can do with some REAL cooling

    Good read.

It does perform where we thought it would, and I am glad that Hard took the opportunity to explain why it wasn't exactly faster than a 9500.

On a side note, did anyone notice how bad the 5600 did in Shadermark, geez...I knew it wouldn't be that great, but not that low.

Guess I'll hold on to my R9500 Pro a little bit longer.

Anyway, great read! Thanks for the heads up, steppy76.

I noticed that. I know the FX has a fully progrmable FP array for shader functions, but those results were just terrible.

Anand has one up as well. Same general results and conclusions. the only thing of note was that the 5600 generally seemed to be a bit more competitive, usually hanging in with the 9600. My speculation is that the 5600 may be more CPU dependent than the ATI cards. Anand used a 3.0C P4 on the 875 motherboard, while HardOCP used a Barton 2500 on an Nforce2. Here's an example:

    HardOCP UT2K3 Antalus 1024x768 2x AA

    9600 Pro - 79.5
    9500 Pro - 86.5
    5600 Ultra - 51.9

    Anand UT2K3 Flyby 1024x768 2x AA

    9600 Pro - 108.1
    9500 Pro - 116.2
    5600 Ultra - 108.5

Granted, they are not the same level, but it is interesting.

    ti4200=42.3

    dont go calling me BS.....

in splinter cell the ti4200 is bigtime faster than the fx5600u

Dude, that is OpenGL... Why not look at the D3D scores

Also you want to talk about the GF4 4200 failing at 1600x1200 with Serious Same 2 in OpenGL..

The 5600 Ultra is TIED with the 4200 8xAGP in UT2003

Now it does get killed in Splinter Cell but they did run a BETA version of SC..

However did you even look at the AA/AF qualities with the 5600 Ultra??? It blows the 4200 out of the water...

    4xAF/8xAA 1024x768 : GF4 4200 - 24.9, GFFX 5600U - 59.1
(Beats the 9500 NonPro) Close behind with the 9500Pro

    4xAF/8xAA 1600x1200 : GF4 4200 - 9.4, GFFX 5600U - 20.4

    Ohh it killed the 4200...

I have to admit I've still to see a videocard 'eat' another, sounds a bit gruesome. I'm guessing the fan will come in handy for digestion?

Seriously, you may not care about AA but there are plenty that do, there are plenty other benchmarks in that review where the 5600 Ultra easily beats the Ti4200, I'm amused you've posted a single benchmark and declared the 5600 ultra 'crap'.

3dmark 2001 is only a major benchmark all review sites live by. I do not care about fsaa because I have the monitor for 2048x1536

The Ti4200 is beaten at 1600x1200 with no AA...

Personally I don't rate 3Dmark2001 as a very good game, given the variety of PC systems out there, benchmarks are a guide, not a definitive indicator. I find it strange you post these threads slating a card like the 5600 Ultra when you haven't used one or owned one yourself.
