New HD, new memory, new problems

Ok, my sister got a new 60gb hard drive and another dimm of pc-100 sdram for her birthday, my dad went ahead and installed them for her. The computer booted just fine except that it couldn't see her HD. My dad then proceeded to reboot only to find that it wont boot back up. Power turns on fine, sounds like everything is going good, cd even opens, except that the monitor is not receiving anything. Found an older video card, popped that in, still nothing, me and my dad have tried every combination of plugging in/unplugging the HD, diffrent video cards(he mobo doesnt have a monitor plug) and we cannot get the monitor to get a signal. She has a p3 500mhz. Can anyone help explain this problem? me and my dad are fresh out of ideas.

Easy to kill a motherboard if you didn't ground yourself properly.
Check and make sure the power supply motherboard connector is seated properly.

Have you tried returning the PC to its original state? ie minus the new HD and DImm
Plus- check all cable connections- it is very easy to dislodge other connections when playing around inside a PC.

Is the memory module the exact same make and model of the old one? If not then it may be that the new memory module may not be able to take the old memory module's settings. Try clearing the CMOS to reset the settings or booting with the old memory stick and lowering the memory settings. I suggest you boot with the old drive as master and the new drive as a slave and see if the motherboard auto-detects the drive.

Follow lords advice, put everything back the way it was and then see what happens...

Did you try a different monitor just to make sure that sucker didnt die? Ive been in similar situations where a component died and I didnt swap it out because i was "totally sure" that it was fine.

If everything works when you return it to the orginally state, then my guess is bad(or just incompatbile) RAM, but usually the mobo will give you error beeps with bad ram, but not always...

    I suspect its the RAM

    Hi:

Did you set the drive up properly. Set as master, copy os over, see if bios recognizes it?

    Go with Lord:
Have you tried returning the PC to its original state? ie minus the new HD
If everything works fine, when you install the new HD ensure the jumpers are set correctly. The BIOS will not detect a HD if (2)HDs on the same IDE are jumped the same.

jumper settings and new hard drives and whatever shouldn't have anything to do with his screen being completely blank... you should still see post even if you have NO hard drives installed
