I have a Radeon 7000 and have gotten it to work, with some restrictions. Any particular needs you have with it?

Yeah, hey, I think i PM'd you the other day. When i hook it up basically I just get a scroll/flash effect like the vsync is off. Is there some specific driver or program i need, or even a manual settings changed. I didn't touch anything just hooked it up.

    I've found these links
    http://www.linuxlogin.com/linux/ati_tv.php

    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/48822

    http://www.stud.uni-hamburg.de/users...ects/atitvout/

and plan on testing them tonight. Will one of those work?

(without actually clicking any of those links...)
I think I tried all of the special stuff (the atitvout program, the GATOS ati driver, etc) and none of it made any difference.

Try using the vesa or the fbdev driver instead of the ati one.
And you may have to set something in your boot configuration (lilo.conf for example) to say which resolution you want (an option like vga=788) I think for the fbdev. You can find a list somewhere on the web for the vga #s for different resolutions.

The main problem I had was with these (sorry I don't remember which one I ended up using, but I'll look it up for you later when I'm at home) was that it didn't support Xv.

I'm pretty much a linux newbie, so a lot of that was right over my head... how simple/complex is it to assign it a different driver?

Was the whole process fairly complex?

What distro are you using? I just used...well now that I have to be specific, I'm not sure, but probably Xconfigurator, and it gives you a list of cards/drivers where fbdev and vesa are listed under Custom or Other or some similar category.

I just installed RedHat 9.0 Well I'm a newbie, but not a computer idiot, so I'll mess around with some things, and run some searches on those keywords you gave me and see what I can find. Would you mind if i hit you up later for some help with it?

I'm just glad to hear someone does indeed have it working, and I didn't just throw my money in the garbage.

Yeah, I think Red Hat took Xconfigurator out of 8.0 at least (haven't tried 9 yet). I'll keep helping as long as you keep asking, 'cause I know from experience how there seems to be very very little information on this topic. And I'll try to find all my relevant settings for you when I get home in a few hours.

Okay. My XF86Config-4 says I'm using the vesa driver. And the line in /etc/lilo.conf is indeed vga=788.

Hopefully that's all of the important info for the moment, because I'm about to wipe it all and reinstall. And if it's not, I'll have all of the problems to work through again for you anyway.

Found the driver, added the vga=788 line to my grub.conf file. Is the fact that I'm using grub instead of lilo going to be a problem?
