Radeon 9700 and DX9
Anyone having issues with the Radeon 9700 pro and dx9? I am looking at a game that requires dx9. Currently I am using dx8.1 and have no issues and do not want any. I am using an intel processor and chipset. The game is Freelancer. None of my other games need dx9 an I do not want my video card which works great now to be screwing up. I have 512 memory.

It works great! I played all the way through freelancer, (till the story ended). Thought it was a great game!
Have no fears about Dx9. Use some Cat 3.2s and Dx9.0a, and use reforce to lock in your refresh rates or you will most likely encounter skipping.

Thanks! I downloaded it and installed. So far it works in the games I have tried. Run Freelancer a while to look at it. Had to patch 3DMark 2001se-I had build 300 and it wouldn't run.

I assume you meant a directX 9 card? No, it doesn't. I can run it with my ti4600 and dx8.
Don't know much about video cards, so how much of a performance gain would I get from installing DX9 with my 9700pro(it's in the mail)? How do I go about doing this and avoiding any compatibility issues?

It might not! I went by what it said on box. Maybe I should have tried the game before installing DX9? Oh well! I got everything working with DX9 so far. Had to patch my 2001se(build 300) to build 330 standards so it would work. My biggest concern was that DX9 would not work with some of my older games but I tried Forsaken and it worked with that so it should work with anything that I use.
Thanks for all the help.

So my question is, is it worth it to try to switch to dx9 once my 9700pro gets here and how do I swicth to it?

Requiring DX9 and using it in the game are 2 different things.
The developers just don't want to wast time chacking if the game works on privius versions so thay ship it with the latest DX and require you to use it. As far as I know Doom3 is going to be the first game to use DX9. I'm going to do a major upgrade when it comes out.

I believe that is incorrect. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Oblivion is the first DX9 game to be released I think.
