Can't record music from CD properly in WMP9

Lately, I haven't been able to properly record music from a CD in Windows Media Player 9. The recorded files have this discordant sound over the actual music. Changing the recording quality doesn't make the problem go away.

As far as I remember, I didn't changed a thing prior to that I discovered the problem.

    Thanks!

    Cool

Not many WMP9 devotees here. Most don't use it for playback and even fewer for recording. There are certainly better applications for those tasks, not advocating that you make any changes. Maybe if you told us a little more about your setup we might have some helpful suggestion.
Are you trying to rip from the CD?
What music format are you ripping to?
    What OS is being used?
Are the optical drives setup for digital or analog transfer?

I try to record from the CD onto the harddrive. The format is WMA, I let the program decide the size of the file but it doesn't matter if I switch to no data loss, I still get discordant sound. I'm using XP Home Ed. I've no idea regarding your last question, but I use OpenMG Jukebox (came with my portable Sony player) to convert the files to ATRAC3 and then transfer them to my player. I can't record from the CD in OpenMG because it won't recognize my CD-drive, I think it's because it's too old.

Wow!! Now that's a combination of two of the most proprietary technologies. Microsoft and Sony, WMP and ATRAC3.
May I suggest that you attempt to rip with non proprietary software.
    CDex is Freeware.
    Easy CD-DA Extractor is shareware.
Exact Audio Copy is freeware and is consider to be one of the best.

Sounds to me like possibly a hard drive problem...maybe your cd rom?
Also did you try copying other CDs to see how they sounded? Maybe it was just a bad CD you were attempting to copy music from.

Don't know about the harddrive nor CD-rom, they haven't caused any other problems.

Yes, it's the same discordant sound regardless of what CD I play.

    Thanks for the advice!
