Buying new CPU, which one?
Im thinking of the 2800+Barton.
Although im torn between buying a 2500+ and trying to OC it.
Im not too savy at OC'ing, but im willing to give it a try.
On the other hand how is the 2800+ for OC'ing? is there much head room left?
I can order a 2800+ for $235 and a 2500+ for $143.
I wish i could afford the 3000+ but its still too pricey for me at $340.
I think id be happy with the 2800+ stock but i sure wouldnt turn down an extra 100-200mghz out of it if i could safely.
Sorry if this has been asked before, id appreciate any feedback from you guys.
Thank You.)

Welcome to Sharky Extreme Forums
Which system are you planning to upgrade? I don't think you'll really preceive any improvement on system 1. And system 2 would require a mobo and memory upgrade too.

im buying it for my #1 rig, then throwing the 2400+ in the #2.
What if i try OC'ing a 2800?
Do i have a decent chance of getting it to run a few hundred mhz more?
Thx again.

Why not just overclock your 2400+? It should get around 2.3 - 2.4GHz which will surely be faster than a Barton 2800+, and even a Barton 3000+!

anzs is right, buy a SLK-800 and a good 80mm fan, and overclock that 2400+.

Agreed, I just got in my 2400 and you're going to get a lot more performance out of ocing the one you got or buying another and ocing both.

Alright then, thx for the advice.
Im just scared im gonna screw something up is all, i havent oc'ed a rig since the old celeron 300a days and i dont know where to begin with this 2400.
I tried messing with the fsb once and had to pop the battery and reset the bios cause she refused to boot afterwards, i was afraid i f***** it all up so i havent tried since...
the memory timings confuse me and im not good with math so i dont have a grasp on the multipliers i just try one and cross my fingers..
any advice on where to begin with this 2400 and ill give it a shot, thx again guys.
