sigh..im stumped and feel inadaquete..
I took the suggestion of the folks here and went and bought a new heatsink/fan to OC my 2400+ instead of buying a new 2800+barton.
I was told to get an slk-800 but no one in town here carries it and i was too inpatient to go looking for it on the net to order, so the best i found local was a volcano-11.
The "trained technician..person" assured me it was very quiet(laugh)and that it was the mack daddy(compared to the older volc-8&9's)so i picked it up for $40 bucks.
Got home tonight from work and put it in with the sensor it came with under my cpu(what a pain)i could not get a boot(yes it sounded like a f'in 747 just buzzed my bedroom tower)for the life of me so i took the cpu out and ripped the sensor off and unplugged it from the fan altogether, it then booted right up into windows np.
Well now for my first attempt at OC'ing, i reboot and try small increments of 2-3mhz on the fsb(ie 135,137)nothing...had to reset my cmos w/jumper on board, reboot again, i read Drs1771 say once that he never saw a 2400+ that couldnt do 13x166.
I assume 13=clock multiplier & 166=fsb.
I tried it, no luck, no boot, reset cmos again(i dont understand why my board insists on me doing this to get her to boot up normally again.
Anyhow im gonna just run her stock for now and enjoy what i have..pfft..maybe pick up that 2800+ afterall.
I know its me, im not doing somethin right.
Any suggestions on what to do next?

My old 8k5a2 insisted on a CMOS Reset everytime it messed up too, it kinda makes you wanna say to hell with overclocking doesnt it? lol.
Have you tried just setting the voltage to say... 1.85, and then just changing the mult?
Here's a suggestion... restart your computer, put your voltage to 1.85, then put your multiplier up ONE step, and see if it boots.

Thx Kaotik.
I tried it at 1.85v(sweat beeding from my forehead)and moved the fsb from 133 to 134.
booya! it booted but...my bloody cpu temp is at 58-61c!
even at stock the puppy's still at 48-51c.
I then tried a step up to 135fsb...no booty for you..(
What ya think?

I think before you start thinking about overclocking you should cool that beast down, lol.
48-51C is just too damn hot at stock. I'm running about 32C overclocked from 1733MHz to 2400MHz.
None of the Volcanos are very good, sorry to say
How is your ambient temp? And if you wanna know why you are having trouble when you change your FSB, its probably your ram or something, but dont worry about that until you cool that processor down, dont wanna fry it, lol.
If you tell me where you live, I will try and find you the best price I can for a SLK-800, they are VERY good heatsinks.

Voltage way to high? LOL! 1.85 is NOT too high for an Athlon. Hell, saps ran his at 2.1v for a while.
Do you think his 2400+ is going anywhere on like 1.7v? Haha, dont think so TBird.

That's what Volcanos do, lol. The Volcano 9 is a "core-cracka" if you ask me, because it's so massive its hard to put on without cracking the core of your Athlon, lol.
I will try and find you a decent price on a SLK-800, but since you live in the US, it should be fairly simple...

i think you need to reseat your hsf. reapply thermal compound (dont use that crappy thermal tape/pad). your temps are much worse than they should be even with a volcano 9. You will get used to the noise at least you can think while sitting next to it (unlike the deltas and tornados).
