    S.N.A.S? (Sudden Northwood Anti-Overclock Syndrome)

Ok I originally had a 2.6ghz overclocked to 3ghz on an albatron pev pro board. Then my dad got a 2.4ghz sl6rz costa rica. I heard great things about these chips so I popped it into my system. I was able to get it to 3ghz also, so I kept the 2.4 because of the higher bus speed and gave the 2.6 to my dad. Well I recently got an abit ic7 mobo and tried to get my 2.4 back to 3ghz. For some strange reason no matter how much it is overclocked it is unstable. Runs at most 2 minutes of prime before a rounding error occurs. So then I popped in the 2.6 and tried to get it back to 3ghz with no avail. Both procs run stable at stock, but even the slightest overclock makes them unstable. I sure hope its not the motherboard that is the problem because I just did an rma with another board. So does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? Oh and my memory is 2x512mb corsair 3200.

That is indeed odd... it's probably not due to intels new anti OC technology though.

I875 boards are known to have minor issues with 533MHz FSB chips... perhaps this is one of them. They are awesome to overclock with C chips... but possibly not B chips.

And I suppose you tried all sorts to diffrent voltages and settings right? Have you looked for a possible BIOS udpate?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure its not due to Intel's proposed anti-overclock system seeing as how it is not out yet I tried many different settings in the bios and its updated to the most current one available. Well I was planning on getting another monitor for graduation, but maybe now I'll get an 800mhz fsb chip so that I can run my memory to its fullest.

Don't feel bad. I just picked up a SL6RZ Costa cpu and I thought I was gonna be flying but it won't do over 155mhz for some odd reason

Yeah I'm a little peeved that I could only get 3ghz out of it, but really that's all I cared about. Kind of ironic that both processors got to no more than 3ghz which is the speed that I was shooting for when I originally bought them. I'm mostly annoyed, however, that these CPUs overclocked to 3ghz in my albatron board, but not my abit board. I just got an idea as to what the problem might be though. I think maybe I set my memory timings to aggressive even though I set them the same as they were in the albatron board, but maybe dual channel affects the timing. I'm at school right now so I can't test if the memory timings are my problem or not, but I'll keep you updated.
