    Rewiring Compaq PSU?

    Hello,

I have a Compaq DP4000 which I would like to use the PSU from. When I plug the PSU into my DTK Dual-PII mobo I cannot get it to boot. If I plug a normal (new) ATX PSU into the board it works fine.

I know the Compaq PSU works, but I think the wiring is completely different. I'd like to redo the wiring to the ATX header so I can have it function on the DTX mobo but I'm stuck trying to figure this one out.

I pulled the ATX header specs off a Compaq PDF for this model and compared it to the ATX v2.1 standard and some things don't match up.

Also, I don't know whether this PSU would be considered an "EN" or "EP" and there is a different chart for each. A shot of each one is included below, and a push in the right direction would be invaluable.

    Thanks!

    well first off

thats what you get for using a Compaq (they are INSANELY proprietary)

about the only thing that you can do that I can think of see if you can find a dead ATX PSU or go to a computer shop and buy an extender. Cut the harness off the Compaq PSU and throw it out, and use splice the wires from the PSU on to the wires from the new ATX harness. Would prolly be wise to go to Radio shack and get a crimper(#64-404 $6.99):

and some butt connectors (#64-3108 $1.69), they come in packages of 16

and use those to connect the wires together...its not very pretty, but you wont have to worry about the wires coming apart.

    Just to get you started...
    RTN/COM =black Wire
    +5v = Red
    +12v = Yellow
    PS_ON#=ON/STBY
    Fan off=PWR_OK

I am dont really remember the rest.

Thanks for the info, I thought I might just solder the wires and use some heat shrink tubing; unless it wouldn't be enough insulation that is.

So are RTS/COM the same then? Thanks!

Neither. Deskpro 4000's (along with the 2000's & 6000's) were discontinued and replaced by the Deskpro EN and EP families. So your power supply might match one or the other, or it could be a completely different design.
