Epox 8RDA question about stepping on Northbridge
I bought my 8RDA over a year ago, is it safe to assume that I do NOT have the A1 stepping that has problems with Kingston HyperX memory topping out at 180fsb in DC mode??? I really don't want to take the heatsink off the northbridge to find out. Thanks!

Use WCPUID, look under chipset info. you can download it here www.h-oda.com

yeah, there is pretty much no doubt that you have an a2 or a3. Also, i'm not sure if wcpuid is entirely correct. It reports my chipset as A2, when the southbridge is an a3...but maybe the south and the northbridge are a different stepping.

Phew! Who would've thought that an earlier version of the board would be better???

speedyaxon: It could be that Epox just updated the NB each time and left the SB alone, just my opinion on it.

They are different on mine (A1 NB, A3 SB). They probably didn't need to update the southbridge so as lonewolfroger suggested, just left it alone.

I have an A3 chip, but WCPUID reports A2. WCPUID isn't always right.

C1(A1) is the newest NB stepping. It supports fsb 200.

I agree Paladyr, I tried removing my NB heatsink on mine but it's stuck fast, so I'm not gonna push it. I didn't know WCPUID could tell, I'll have to check. However, I'm sure I have A1 stepping because it does 210 FSB without breaking a sweat, and my board is a revision 1.1. I'll check WCPUID anyway.

From what I understand, the SPP-128 chips were all 400MHz by design. The A1 chipset only introduced the black core and autodetect 400MHz CPU, whereas the boards shipping with A1 are the determining factor in the OC.
I've got a rev. 1.1 board doing 222FSB rock solid with the A1 chipset (228 max). I've wondered if there were any A2/A3 chips on the 1.1 board with similar OC's to the A1 shipped boards.
