    Logitech, we have a problem

    I do believe that after ALMOST a year, my z560s sub has blown. I sat down in front of my computer today to fix a network problem and I heard a low hummmmmmm coming from the sub. I just turned off the power on the console and then came back a few minutes later wondering what the hell happened. It almost sounded like microphone feedback. So, I turned on the power again, and after fooling w/ microphone controls and volume controls it still sounded like a mic was on. I fooled around with the control pod and got noises that sounded like someone's hand smacking a microphone. Well, I figured out why. With the mic muted AS WELL AS EVERYTHING ELSE MUTED AND VOLUME AT ZERO FOR EVERYTHING, if I even TOUCH the bass knob if produces a "microphone-like" feedback that creates itself from the sub. I tried playing music... no bass. At least, not that I think. Lemme check.... Yea no bass, can barely hear the damn music and I have to turn the volume WAY up to even produce noise. I think my 560s, ladies and gentlemen, have died.


    Time of death: 11:59PM, June 2nd, 2003.

    Not having a receipt for the purchase, what can I do from here? If nothing, this just gives me a reason to look for other speakers, maybe bump up to the 680s (but I'll wait for u audioguru's to convince me otherwise)!!! :'(

    Have you tested your Z560's on an another source, like a portable cd player?

    SoupNazi, I have not tried that yet. I will do that when I can find a CD player in my house that works. I do not believe that the sound card has a problem, I plugged headphones into my headphone jack on the livedrive and it was fine. Plugging into the back of soundcard itself was fine. CD Player test to come later today.

    Perhaps you can suffer through a phone call to Logitech and see what they suggest. Yes, I know its a pain in the rear to do this but who knows.. they just may have some good news for you. You did do the registration when you bought them didnt you? (or did these even have a registration? I dont even remember)
    Anyway, give them a call see what they have to say.. Id try at least.

    WAHOO! Guess what? I called Logitech Tech Support, and after listening to some nice classical music for 10 minutes I ended up talking to a very nice gentleman who is going to replace my speakers! It was a very nice conversation, not a pain in the rear lol. I was very calm about it and explained my side of the story and he was very accepting and apologetic (if that is a word). I just told him that I came home from work one night and the sub was blown and he was sorry that happened and gave me an RMA number and shipping address to send the control pod back to. I just gotta mail that sucker in and he said "we'll be sending you the whole nine yards back to your house address." So that's pretty cool. Now I have a dead sub and 4 working sats lol. Oh well I'm happy and the Logitech support guy was very nice!

    Now I'll just wait for awhile after I send the pod. Does anyone know how long it'll be for me to expect them to arrive (like anyone who has done this before)???

    yeah, logitech knows about the problems and just requires you to cut off the power cord and send in the control pod and you get it all back. I too have a dead sub sitting in my garage and 4 sats that are collecting dust. Hell, if I could find something to do with each sattelite (which I'm sure can be put to use somehow) then it's almost worth it to just say your sub blew, then cut off the cord and send in the control pod. It's less than $5 to ship, I think mine was like $3.**...

    And I live in Indiana yay! I did talk to Trav2003 and he said that his sub actually did blow, and made a pop yet was still capable of playing music. My subwoofer didn't do that (at least... I wasn't around when it decided to pop let alone no one was in my house to even use the speakers). Instead they just kept making weird noises if I moved the bass knob that came from the subwoofer. If you don't know what I mean, turn ur bass all the way up and turn ur mic on, then hit the microphone w/ ur hand. It made that noise, except just from the sub itself. And the other weird thing is, the Logitech guy just wanted me to send in the control pod, but for Trav2003 he wanted the pod AND the powercord to the sub. Weird? Oh well

    Im very happy that it wasnt a pain in the rear for you and now youll be getting new speakers.. Congrats and lets hear them!!
