Looking for a light laptop
I've been looking around for a small laptop that is still relatively fast. I would like one around 3lbs with decent specs. Here's what I've found so far:
Sharp Actius MM10 (crusoe = slow)
Sharp Actius UM32W (SDRAM and P3 are not what I really want)
Sony V505 (heavier but faster)
Can anyone add any to the list? A P4 laptop that weighs around 3lbs would rock. Thanks.
edit: spelling etc.

WOW 3 lbs with speed is just not gonna happen. Look into a centrino laptop. Thats gonna be your best bet.

I considered Centrino, but then when I saw the price I stopped. New products tend to be expensive. I would really like that Sony laptop without the built in DVD/CD-RW and with USB 2.0. That would save it a lot of weight and space and then I could just buy an external drive. Too bad I'm not the one designing them.

meh, the second sharp I linked to is $1500. It's not the fastest thing, but it'll work. The Sony is about $1800 and it has more than enough performance and weighs like 4.3 lbs, so that's getting close.

I know Dell's web site has a section for "Higher Education Faculty, Students, and Staff", but for some reason the Latitude models aren't listed there. If you look at their business pages, you can find the Latitude D400 listed for $1,499, and then the educational faculty/student/staff discount would usually take 5% off if you qualify. There's also a $150 rebate deal going on for that model right now ($50 instant & $100 mail-in), and if you could combine the education discount and the rebates, that's a sweet deal: $1,499 less 5% and $150 = $1,274.05.

What about the fujitsu P Series? They appear to be pretty neat, but low weight - around 4lbs with the DVD/CDR combo drive.

Not too shabby. I don't like the 10.6" display much, but they are pretty nice. Thanks for the heads up.

Can anyone reccomend a light laptop with SXVGA? I think it is. The next step above 1024x768. I will be using it for my comp sci stuff and need a slim light laptop to take to class with me but with a screen with more pixels. Also it needs to be able to boot from a cd. The cd can be external but i need to be able to boot from it.

I like my Compaq Evo N610n notebook. It is slightly less than 5 pounds with the 1400x1050 screen. There are processor options so you can opt for a lower speed at a lower price.
