running cold cathode (or something similar) off of USB power

I'm working on a project which would require me to run a cold cathode light off of USB power. Doesn't matter what cathode is used...just has to be under 10" in length.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have

those might work...unfortunately, what I need to do is to borrow the power from an existing USB device, like a keyboard or mouse. Any suggestions on that?

Heh, well I will tell you that USB can only pump out 5v. And most all of the cathodes you'll see will be running on 12v current.

    just a fyi

Dont quote me on this, but the cathode may light up through usb power, but just wont be nearly as bright as when connected to a power supply.

    yeah, I discovered that...

Does anyone know the brightness difference between a cold cathode and those LED lights that natgun linked to?

I would doubt that the LED lights are as bright as the cathodes, but im not sure on the difference..
