    woohoo...SCSI card came today

    Unfortunately though, my Maxtor Atlas III 36.7GB 10k U160 drive hasn't arrived yet. I've also got a new HSF for my server box, so I can get it back up and running again...as long as another molex power connector doesn't shatter the fins on the new one.

    I love getting new hardware

    Hmmm, Ok I heard of some good LSI cards... But I dont like the warning on neweggs site...

    "Please note: This scsi adapter is compatible with Windows XP but can't be used for installation Windows XP Due to manufacturer driver limitations"

    That kinda sucks

    I have dual channel LSI 53C1010 U160 controller. The driver is native to Windows. I've never had a problem installing the OS to a new drive from a bootable CD.

    cool...glad to hear that. I just checked out the LSI website, and it says it runs fine in XP...including installation. I'm planning on running it for either Linux or 2k anyway, but if I ever want to put it in my other box or upgrade to XP its good to know.

    That is good to know

    I dont deal with LSI cards that often... Mostly Adaptec and Mylex.

    Didn't see the point for me to spend $180 or so for an Adaptec card, when I could get an LSI for around $40

    Im not disputing that you should of gotten a $180 card

    I was just pointing out my experience with SCSI cards

    I dont think I have ever seen a U160 card for under $50 new so that is a good price

    I used to use Mylex, but switched to Adaptec cards over the past 8 years. The LSI is the first one I've owned. It does have a few problems scanning the SCSI bus at boot time. They are easy to get around.
