WTH: fans
lol this past week my graphic card fan started making a god awful chainsaw noise. So i orderd a chaintek cooling kit. Well just today my damn mother board fan has started making a strange noise. Its a really small fan. If it were to go out. Would my motherboard burn up? should i replace it. Its is rather annoying. But where would i get another fan this size? should i just unplug it. My motherboard is in my sig

the motherboard fan your talking about is the fan on the northbridge (I believe...correct if wrong) and I don't think taking it off will kill it but it may cause some instability...mainly because most northbridge fans are small and realatively weak so therefore it doesn't really push a whole lot of air...worst case I think is that it'll freeze and you'll have to restart...

Its probably a 40mm. I'd replace it with the lowest dba rated fan I could find. Check out 1coolPC.com, they probably have them.

i took it off and then i couldnt find any wd-4o. so i spoted a can of 10w 30 motor oil. hehe i poured that all over it and wraped it in a napkin and so far so good. It hasnt made any strange noises. I havnt checked on it since i put my case door back on tho. So its probaly burnt up or something

LOL, the way you treat your computer amuses me. I wouldn't dream of spraying WD-40 or putting oil in my case, I use that to oil my fishing reels etc.
