    Longhorn is not going to be released until 2005 if I remember correctly.

    SP2 = Service Pack 2. Just a collection of updated security fixes and driver updates that are sent out via their auto updator, so if you have that going there isn't a point in getting it. If you have dialup then there is a good reason to save the one file on your system, otherwise the auto updater is fine.

    Remember they recently unveiled Windows Server 2003, but I bet there are people like me who consider XP as their current OS.

    it's like saving site files on dial ups so it could load up faster rite?

    No. Those are internet cahce files. Security fixes are known issues or bugs that let potential hackers gain access to your machine or design flaws that make the machine run in a way it wasn't intended to. These updates are put out as soon as Microsoft learns about them which happen very infrequently. Once a month, twice a month, who knows? it varies. Service packs on the other hand are released maybe once a year. They are the same little files that you get with the updates, but for conveniance it's packaged into a big file.

    hahaha im actually going to say this but i love microsoft. my dad works for a few hospitols in downtown indianapolis and he gets the student/staff discount from the iupui bookstore. Windows XP Profesional not $200 not $100 but $15. hahahaha and then i can still get office for realy cheap too. and its still the full versions. its great.
