What's up with Intel?
Can't Intel see that the Athlon 64 processor is going to rule the market?
Always in past history Intel was slightly higher than AMD. But now, Intel is hugely behind.
Maybe Intel will pull something like AMD did when AMD released it's 1Ghz processor a week before schedule. (or something like that, my memory of then was a little blurry)
Oh well, I still like Intel because of their ground breaking "Pentium" processor. Though AMD seems to be gaining the high ground now.

Is this suppost to be a sarcastic thread????
Intel is currently owning AMD and will continue to do so at least until AMD releases their .09u process.
A64 @1.8GHz was not labled "3100+" for nothing, it's because AMD knows that they aren't going to be able to compete with the 3.2GHz

Look, read my post please.
I grew up on Intel. All my computers are Intel. I think AMD is a low quality processor.
I'm an Intel fan. OK?
Now that been said, I'm just wondering.
What's up with Intel?
Come on, the new AMD chip is killing Intel's 3.0Ghz.
Who cares about whether it clocked at 1.8Ghz, it just shows that AMD can run 1.8Ghz at 3Ghz.

Can you please give me a link to where you read this information...because so far i have seen the exact opposite of what yuo are saying

But the problem with your statement is that it's false, the 3.0 is far ahead of the A64 in all the benches relevant to home use I have seen. The only benches that the A64 does well in are server db tests. For productivity, gaming, multimedia Intel is a great deal ahead of AMD. AMD is much more competetive with the K7 core then they are going to be with A64 on the .13u process.

AMD64 might make a place for itself in the server market. But that is a very hard nut to crack. And the vast majority of server shops are Intel powered. It will take some big balls to try to sell the board on putting all their data on a non-Intel system. If all is well, you saved some peanuts. If issues arise, you get to go and look for a better job in this hot IT market.
As for taking over the desktop world, Amd better find a way to put them on a $55 board at $65 a unit. The homebuilders will love them if they are as advertised, but I doubt that Dell will jump on them.
It should also be remembered that Intel has been ready to trump everything AMD has done for quite a while now. I suspect that Intel is milking the market by releasing just enough speed to stay ahead of AMD, holding the rest in reserve.

Again, where's the evidence for this? Is the desktop 64bit processor even in distribution yet? I thought that was roadmapped for the fall? Anyway, if you're not running 64 bit O/S or apps, where's the advantage? Are you running any 64bit apps? I'm not.

If I'm a fan of any compay, I'm an AMD fan. But Wankey, you're just.... wrong. So wrong, there is no point even attempting to explain it to you.

Uhh, not to be an smart-***, but Have you heard of the Itanium?
Intel's had thier 64-bit processors, around for a while.
They have Itanium 2's out now.
*cough*

Ahh but the Athlon64's are low end server procs, Itaniums are at the very top of the food chain.

Wankey... You do know that the 3200+ from AMD (depends on the benchmark) will fall below a 2.8c... So a 3.0Ghz or a 3.2Ghz blows the 3200+ out of the water...
So I dont know what old/false facts you are reading.. But dead wrong!
So wrong it makes TB1Ghz right

Can't intel see what? AMD may get a leg up IF many things occur. One major issues is if the processor gets alot of software support...i fear that win 2k3 64-bit will stay in beta through 2003 and into 2004 and this will hurt the 64 bit processors. It remains to be seen what intel will end up clocking the hammer processors at. If they can ramp up to the 2.4-2.5 ghz range I'd say intel could have some real competition. Right now though Hyperthreading just throws the competition in the trash. Intel's processors are already slightly faster in pretty much every benchmarks and WAY faster in a select few before even considering hyperthreading technology. Its really hard to justify with intels price cutting lately buying an amd cpu unless you want a budget 2100+ system overclocked (see sig.).
AMD has far from won much of any leg up on competition...a64's success remains to be seen.

this is one of the stupidest threads i have yet seen here on sharkys. comparing the a64 to p4 is like comparing apples and oranges, and i bet you a million bucks amd is not anywhere near "ruling" the market a year or even 2 years from now. dude, get a clue...
