I'm an Intel fan. OK?
Now that been said, I'm just wondering.
What's up with Intel?
Come on, the new AMD chip is killing Intel's 3.0Ghz.
Who cares about whether it clocked at 1.8Ghz, it just shows that AMD can run 1.8Ghz at 3Ghz.
The only time AMD had a lead on intel was when the 1.2ghz tbird with ddr ram was beating the 1.6ghz willamette p4 if i recall correctly. Then once the northwoods came out and they OCed like nuts it all was over for amd again, and we end up where we are now.

I'd say that AMD64 is already succeeding, marvelously. Look at all the little intel men infighting, woo. LOL
I'd bet money that intel is sitting on a 64bit AMD clone and ready to jump into this market if it takes off. They just don't want to admit that AMD might have a better idea.

The markets not gonna take off till Intel's in it anyway. So why bother?
Intel dictates the market. They mave "mucho" marketshare.

Only time will tell. Like I have said before, what is the point of arguing this when the chip is not even out yet. We will know at the end of August when it seems that the 3100+ and 3400+ will be out. Other than that it is speculation, but AMD has a long ways to go. Even if the chip kicks complete *** and scales like a mother ****er they still need to get OEM deals (looking brighter lately), lower production costs, and fool enough normal people into going 64 bit as opposed to getting a chip that has a 2x higher MHz rating. It will be the marketing showdown of the decade, what will win, the old standby MHz are everything camp, or the old video game scheme, it's all about the bits. They also have to hope that MS is serious about getting an OS out by the end of the year. Luckily for AMD, judging from where the MS beta's are, they should easily get an OS by years end.

They have Yamhill, it's a X86-64 desgin they can run with if they feel the need. AFIK it's been under development for awhile now and I wouldn't be too surprised if they are far off being able to ship it. Of course we may not see it for another 2-3yrs

Ok, Firstly, I'm not trying to pick a Intel Vs. AMD fight again.
I like both companies, and I would gladly buy any processor (although to this date I've only bough INtel )
Anyways, What new chip is Intel coming up with?
I've realized that a good metaphor for Intel vs. Amd is the Empire vs. the Rebel Alliance, respectively.
Whereas the empire has its influence around the market, the rebel alliance is quickly catching on.
Anyways, I read that many analysts say that the Itanium 2 64-bit processor will be the dominant processor in the server market, grabbing around 60% of the sales, while the Opteron will grab the latter part.
The only reason why we, as consumers are hyped up for the Opteron is that it is 32-bit compatible and that we can use it as well. And the thought that consumers have server based processors can make AMD triumph. Same as what Intel did with the 32-bit leap from 16-bit processing.
And I also heard that Centrino was a failed plan which was overstated.
So what really does Intel have in plan which will blow away the competition?
I mean, stop telling me that Intel is "just kick ***" (I already know that), I want some good opinions.

And also, AMD should stop its stupid number sign Marketing campaign and go back it the gigahertz sign marketing. Because if they do so, it suddenly shows, that a AMD 2.2ghz, and a Intel 3Ghz, are the same.
So people will obvsiouly by 2.2ghz because if the slow one can beat a fast one, then what if the slow one becomes faster?
I'd rather buy an AMD 1.9Ghz which out runs a 3Ghz rather than a AMD 3000+ (it's the same, but calling it a different name just makes it sound cheesy).
And why can't Intel implement this type of architechture?
It's at freaking 3Ghz, if it uses AMD quadpump crap stuff, it'll be like 5000+

And please read all of this, I know most of you don't...
I've read ur posts over again, and I've tried to understand your one sided views.
But I can't.
You guys are hiding behind Intel's Marketing.
I know some people who hide behind Amd's Marketing.
One side ALWAYS says Intel's better
and the other side ALWAYS says AMD is better.
One of my friends became a AMD fanatic, and now, I hang around him anymore. Because why? because day in, day out, he would come to be, either forum, MSN, or just talking, he would constantly shout that AMD is better. Amd is the best. Everyday, he benchmarks his computer to show me that "his" 2400+ is better than my 2.4Ghz.
I don't care about your views. Because they are ALL biased one way or the other. You can show me proof that Intel wins, and I can find proof that Intel loses.
I just want to know what Intel has in plan. What great plan which is in secrecy.
I know Intel's releasing it's "prescott" processors later this year, but all I've heard is double L2 cache and better Hyper threading.
That's pretty understating, two upgrades? what else?
And also, the new AMD 3200+ 3100+ beats competitive 3Ghz and 3.06 Ghz by quite a margin in the new edition of PC World Magazine.
3200 scored 135 on world bench and 3100 score 130
3Ghz scored 120 somthing and 3.06Ghz scored 116
Go check it out.
PCWorld Issue July 2003
P.S. - I don't spend all my day researching computers, so I "might" not be that knowledgable to how AMD "Tbird" is different from AMD "Athlon"
Acutally, I know a lot about Intel stuff, no AMD.
As I said, I'm a intel fan. So take it lightly.

Get a 2.4C... clock it to 3.2GHz... sit down, and enjoy . And if you dont want to overclock... enjoy the warmth and goodness of HYPER-THREADING!!!
Intel is FAR ahead, as far as technology works. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Have you seen the size of their plants? C'mon now... you think this gigantic corporation is going to let some little mini-sized plant located in germany take it over? lol... nope. Believe... Intel is the kind of poeple you dont even QUESTION!
Dont get me wrong... I like my AMD. It's fast and everything... but It doesnt have hyper-threading, lol

GAAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
I LIKE INTELL!!!!!
I LOVE INTEL!!!!
CAN'T YOU SEE I'm EVEN USING A INTEL PROCESSOR??
WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU??
DO YOU NOT READ MY POSTS?
i JUST WANT TO KNOW WHATS INTEL'S NEXT QUARTER FORECAST
WHAT IT IS SECRETLY BREWING IN ITS BELLY.
THAT'S WHY I PUT THAT METAPHOR.
INTEL IS THE EMPIRE.
I still wonder how the rebel alliance destroyed the Empire.
Even with the death start destroyed, I could barely think that a small fighter would destroy the "SUPER START DESTROYER!!!"
oh my.
oh well
screw this post
how do I lock it?
people don't read it and think something else.

If they did “see it” they would be imagining things. Why on earth do you think AMD’s new processor is going to “rule the market”?

Always in past history Intel was slightly higher than AMD. But now, Intel is hugely behind.
What makes you think this? You do realize that AMD’s new chip is basically just a heavily modified Athlon right?
Again, what makes you think Intel needs to do anything at all? To put that another way, what is it you think the A64/Opteron does so much better then Intel’s chips?

Link please…
This is VERY unlikely. The Xeon is going to be the #1 selling server chip for the foreseeable future, Itanium, Power 4 and SPARC are going to fight a 3 way battle for top spot in high end servers.
AMD is going to continue to be locked out of the server market altogether if they do not get some Teir1 and Teir 2 vendors onside, and that don’t seem likely as they would have to take a huge cut in their profit margins to sell AMD based servers. This leaves AMD fighting it out with Xeon and P4 for the Teir 3/whitbox vendors, which are far and away the least profitable segment of the server market.

Why would consumers want “server processors”? They are typically slower, don’t overclock as well, more expensive, and not set up to run the type of applications most consumers want.

??? What “leap”? Intel was one of the last companies to the game with a 32-bit processor, and key futures like memory protection. Despite this it took another 15 years for 32-bit computing to catch on with consumers.

Where on earth did you here that? Centrino is an amazing chip. It has higher IPC then the Athlon, runs at respectable clock rates, produces overall performance not far off the top of the line desktop chips, and does all this using only a few Watts of power. It is far and away the best notebook chip available. Personally, I would love to have a passively cooled, fanless Centrino desktop for an every day (non-gaming) system.
