Fast LCD Monitors
I know the Samsung 172t has a total of 15 or 16ms respsonse time but what are the other monitors out there that fast? Definately gonna get an LCD to go beside a CRT but don't know which ones have the new and faster response time.
Thanks.

hitachi CML monitors have 15ms. (samsung 172T has 25ms, btw.) coincidentally, both are in this review:

For gaming, even the 16ms ones ghost a little. The next generation of LCDs should be able to handle gaming as well or better than CRTs. If you're looking to game with it, i'd think twice.

oops, i meant 16ms on the CML.
yeah, for gaming or even graphics work i would stay with a CRT, definitely. if you just want an LCD to use as a second monitor for web, text and office work, 25ms is fast enough. you don't have to worry about it being much faster.

1) Thanks for directing me to that Hitachi lcd
2) I didn't ask your damn opinion on if I should get an LCD or not
3) I don't want your opinion on what type (lcd vs crt) monitor I should get.
4) I said I was getting an LCD to go beside a ****ing CRT
5) The ghosting doesn't bother me and I think you guys ***** way too much.
Sorry to sound rude but every time an LCD monitor thread comes up half the posts are people *****ing aout LCDs instead of trying to help. I get the idea, now point me towards the good LCDs regardless of how they compare to CRTs.

You do understand that a lot of people just read these forums and comments like mine above help them make a good choice. Your thread isn't just for you, MANY other people will look at it. Of course, the primary concern is to help you out...so I will help you out.
Here is what you want, VERY nice display: http://pcworld.pricegrabber.com/sear...28976a72cfe38b
Best thing is, you can order it from dell. They have THE best return policy available so if something doesn't work, no worries.
Oh yeah, did I mention it's pretty cheap for an LCD?

I've been using an LCD monitor for about a year now after ditching my dual Sony 19" trinitrons. I like not seeing any flicker, and my headaches suddenly went away Another nice thing about LCD is perfect angle geometry that perfectly fills the screen. How often have you messed around with your monitor settings and the edges and corners still look warped?
My monitor is rated 25ms and I play a lot of Jedi Knight 2. Ghosting is only slightly noticeable during the most rapid moves, but in a short time I think my eyes and brain agreed to ignore it- sort of like how the 2 horozontal lines on a trinitron eventually sort of vanish. I think the term "Ghosting" makes it sound much worse than it actually is, and if you can play a game on an LCD-equiped PC near you, check it out for yourself. I don't think most people wouldn't even notice if they weren't actively looking for it.

Lord Cecil- the NEC 1760NX and 1760V also are 16ms panels (the V is VGA only, the NX is VGA or DVI). They use the exact same AU Optronics panel as the Hitachi, so if you can find the 1760NX for cheaper, then, well, go with that. BenQ also makes a 16ms 17" panel (which may be the AU Optronics one as well) but I don't know of the model # off hand.

Actually, there is a difference in the Hitachi and NEC 16ms models. The NEC has a 450:1 contrast ratio, while the hitachi only has 400:1.

You don't just sound rude you sound like an a$$hole. If you don't want to hear someone's opinion, then it's simple, don't ask the question to begin with. It's their opinion, right or wrong, if you don't like it, don't take the advice, but don't jump on their case for offering it.
As to your topic, I have the Hitachi monitor and I am well satisfied with it.

The reason people say stuff about ghosting and gaming with LCD monitors is because many people don't read other threads or search, they just post and wait for a response. People that respond just want to make sure you know all of the details so that you can make a good decision and don't wind up with something that you don'want and regret buying.

All of that negative crap about LCD comes from people who don't own one and never saw a decent LCD in action. I can't imagine how anyone can stick to CRTs except for those who don't have enough cash...
