Thanks for the link. That guy got flamed mercilessly for what seem like some pretty accurate arguments to me.
One of the comments someone had was about the other benchmarks (i.e. Photoshop). I'd be interested to see some third party numbers ona wider array of programs, but given the release date of the system we'll probably have to wait a while.

That's funny, when I think Sony, I think of crap made in a Chinese prison camp. Then I think about reliability problems and bad engineering.
You can't even attempt to put Sony in Apples class. Without Apple, there would be very, very little style in which is still a very, very boring market. I like their new deisgn, the whole lucite thing was getting old.
'chinese prison camp' <-- leads me to believe that you're thinking about china. If you don't even know where Sony headquarters is located and in fact incorrectly state the wrong location, how much credibility may be given to your statements. Specifically, "...when I think Sony, I think of crap..."

As has been said before, I hope you aren't referring to their home country (Japan). Also, Sonys put several things on the map. They were a vital part of several products like the CD, DVD etc. Sony made one of the world's first popular portable transistor radios and created both the Walkman and Discman. They had the world's first vertically and fully flat CRTs and still imo make the best picture tubes in the world. The WEGA cabinet design has been copied by every company from Panasonic to Zenith. Do they make questionable products? Yea, look no further than many of their speakers etc., but you can't argue against Sony's vital contributions to the electronics industry.
They're suffering along with the rest of Japan's economy, but that doesn't diminish what they've done.
I'm also not sure why the country of manufacture makes a difference in the quality of products. WEGAs are predominatly made in Mexico, but yet compare them with any other tube manufactured anywhere else. Look up where Apple parts and large parts of their computers are made...you might be surprised.

lol...maybe I was (am ) naive. You're on the money though. I'm by no means a Mac hater, and to the contrary, the better part of my elementary school years was spent on Macs, I own an iPod and I have a great deal of respect for Jobs (as well as Wazniack) in so far as what they did for the industry.
What Mac fanatics can't understand is that just because they sell cool looking, innovative products at high prices doesn't mean they're the end all of computing. I have a freind whos a Mac nut, and he has a freind whos an ever bigger Mac nut (we're talking art majors who ordered the new iMac the day it came out, then followed suit with the G4 Powerbooks). Between them they have a couple of G4 towers, 2 Powerbooks and an iMac. I've asked them on freindly terms to show me how much their Mac dominated my college rig (the 1.2 Athlon). The closest I got was an Mp3 encoding test in which I destoryed a SuperDrive PowerMac (800 MHz IIRC) by something like 3 minutes versus 9 minutes for the Mac. I've never gotten another test and they argue the OS is superior, then defend the Macs superiority in Photoshop and Premiere. I'll give em Final Cut etc., but correct me if I'm wrong...Photoshop on a Mac isn't that different from Photoshop on a PC...so that OS arguement goes out the window (no pun intended). If you want to pay 2 grand for Safari and Sherlock (great proggies, but still), then go ahead.
Again I don't hate Apple, but the way they market their products and the core group that they target by its nature means they'll never gain market share.
BTW...great fight Sat I heard. I was actually up at my college apt, but missed all but the end of it . The crowd loved Vitali at the end from what I saw. I'd love to see Jones beat Lewis now (wonder what the odds are on that one) . Lewis might end up losing to Vitali in a rematch and Jones before he retires.

I have gone back and forth between Mac and PC, and I recently sold my dual 1.25 G4 PowerMac and just ordered parts to build a PC from newegg.com
Mac prices are insanely high, but so is the resale value. I bought my dual 1.25 at a developers discount of $1600, upgraded the RAM and hard drive, added a DVD-RW drive and sold it on eBay three months later for $2200. Not bad eh? Well I ran some benchmarks using Maya 4.5 and compared it to a 2.4 GHz PC with only 256MB DDR, both with Radeon 9000 Pro. The difference was nuts. What the Mac rendered in 23.4 minutes, the PC did it in 8.1. This is what I would call a "small" project too- only 30 frames (1 second long) so imagine the time I will save when I build an even faster PC and work on bigger projects.
