    Angry windows xp wont recognize cd-rw and dvd-rom drive

    asus a7n8x deluxe mobo.I have windows problem that my cd-rw and dvd-rom drives have exclamation marks by them .Update driver does not work(wont install the generic driver).PLEASE HELP!!

    Cool

    Remove the IDE controller they are attached to in Device Manager and reboot.

    I think Nemesys is correct. If you loaded the Nvidia IDE drivers they are not compatable with XP. By removing them your system will revert to the Microsoft Drivers and will see the optical devices. Remove the Nvidia IDE drivers from add remove programs and remove both IDE controllers from device manager and reboot.
