    LEADTEK "BOX" cards. ANY GOOD?

just looking at buying a new graphics card at the moment. Don't try and sell me an ATI card, This forum is rediculously pro ATI. So forget it.

So at the moment I can buy either a Leadtek 5900 128mb, with the weird looking silver box all around it, or an albatron 5900 card that has "cheap" written all over it. I just can't see how those Leadtek cards could cool properly. Everything is encased in those silver boxes. Surely it's going to get a helluva hot inside there. Does anybody have one of these cards?? Can somebody direct me to a review of a Leadtek 5900. Thanks now for any info.

That silver box is a big heatsink, lol. That helps it cool tramendously.

The "silver box" you refer too is actually one of the BEST cooling solutions around for Nvidia cards. They used a similar heatsink solution on their GF4 Ti line and its worked like a charm, I actually still use one and it overclocks like a dream.

    From Leadtek :

    WinFast TwinTurbo-II Cooling System
The WinFast A300 series features a new generation active cooling system called the "WinFast Twin Turbo II". Combining Leadtek's patented technology with wind tunnel technology from aviation industry, the WinFast Twin Turbo II enables the heat sink with more effectiveness than a conventional active cooling system at the same time. Since WinFast Twin Turbo II cooling coverage will be used for both graphics chipset and graphics memory, it guarantees the function of effective heat dispersion and noiselessness to protect these two special products.

I had a Ti4400 Leadtek with that wrap around cooler. Didn't cool worth a d^%$#. I feel that there are much better cooling solutions for the 5900 pro out there. If I were getting one I would look at the MSI one. That looks like a real good cooling solution. Just be sure that there is nothing in the first PCI slot as these 5900 cards are huge. Also they are long so be sure your motherboard has the clearance.

    ...

actually, in a European review of a lot of 5800 Ultra's, the Leadtek was the HOTTEST.

IMHO get the Albatron, my roommate has a 4200 Turbo from the, and its fast as hell.
