external scsi enclosure, power on/off in windows

Can an external enclosure be powered on or off when windows xp pro is running? I hate to just try it and get my first XP BSoD.

You won't get a bsod if the drives are not being used. You can force a rescan of the SCSI bus to regain the disk units after restoring power. Still, I don't recommend turning off remote units just to save power or reduce noise.
