%#@!*%& Pop-ups!!
Hey all,
Recently, for reasons unknown, I have been inindated with dozens of pop-up ads! It doesn't matter what site I'm no or whats in the background. Even right now as I type this, 2 pop-ups advertising various retailers that have no connection to Sharky at all have come on screen. Its getting very annoying.
I'm wondering...did I some how download these files inadvertantly? Is there some kind of program I can use to stop them? Or better yet, get rid of them??

Sounds like some Adware/Spyware was installed on your computer. You should download a program like Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and it should take care of the problem for you.
Check it out here
The Sweetness:
* Intel Pentium 4 2.4C @ 2.88 (12x240)
* ABIT IC7 w/1GB PC3500 DDR
* SLK 900-U w/Vantec Thermoflow 92x25mm Fan
* Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro (440/370)
* Raidmax Black Mid P4 350W ATX Case
Whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger. Not lifting weights doesn't kill me. Therefore not lifting weights makes me stronger.

Have you tried Spybot or Adaware?
Maybe check msconfig>startup too.

Crash Test Dummy
If the popup messages are text only and you're running Windows NT, 2000, or XP, there's a good chance you're seeing spam popups sent via Windows' Messenger service -- not to be confused with MSN Messenger, which is a completely different thing.
You can safely disable the Messenger service without harming Windows. (It's used to send messages over a network, like if an admin was warning you about a server outage. If you don't know whether you need it, you most likely don't.) If you're running Windows 2000 or XP, right-click My Computer and select Manage, and then go down to Services at the bottom (under the Services and Applications heading). With Services highlighted on the left, all your services will be shown on the right. Find Messenger and double-click it. In its properties window, click the Stop button and set its Startup Type to Disabled.

They can afford to double it since two times zero is still zero!

On another note, the indispensable Google Toolbar has a new version 2.0 Beta that has a popup blocker built in. It seems to work really well. So far I've blocked 58 popups!

Mozilla 1.4, which was just released, deals with popups even better than its predecessor. Not one pop up for me yet...
