Are Western Digital Raptor SATA drives good?

    Hi,

I'm builing my new rig, and I was very happy with my current raid configuration, and I want to repeat it on my new rig.

But the only SATA drives that are 10K rpm are Western Digital Raptor 36Gb, do you guys think they are good for a SATA Raid 0 configuration?

Do anyone have any problems with Raptors?

    Thanks for any replies,
    Abula

    OS-Wiz,

Thanks for the link, there was a good review there. I think I will go with the raptors, the only thing that I do like more is space, but this will be a gaming rig, so I think I could live with 70Gb in raid.

    Slinks,

Thanks for the comment, you have a great rig, you have more or less what I'm looking for, maybe you can help,

    ABIT IC7
I was thinking on going with the IS7 because of price/preformace, I wount do any OC, do you think I should go witht the IS7 or the IC7.

    2x512 MB Kingston Hyper X PC3500
I have Kingson in my computer, but for the second one I also was considering Kingston due that I didnt experience any problems and they were fast and stable. Many people here rave about Cosair, and I havent decided yet on which of the two. What are your impresions, about HyperX do you think it can compete with Cosair? Do you recommend to go with 3500 or 3200 if I'm not going to OC?

2X 10,000 RPM SATA WD Raptors Raid 0
Thanks for the advice, I will buy them.

    ATI 9700 PRO
I'm getting a 9800pro, the only thing that I haven decided yet is on 128mg or 256mg, having the above setup, what do you think will be my bottle neck? Do you think it is a good investment to go with 256mg version?

    21" G220fb Viewsonic
Very good choice, I'm going with the Viewsonic P225f

    Soundblaster Extigy
Here I was thinking on going with a Audigy 2 OEM or a Forstissimo III, but I havent make my final descition.

Sony 5.1 DD DTS 600W surround sound 2 10" Subs
Cool, I'm also planning on getting JBL NSP1 (5 speaker package) with a JBL P12 sub. And for the A/V reciever, probably pioneer VSX912K

    Thanks,
    Abula

They are fast, but also the first of their kind. WD did make some 10K drives years ago though. I would wait a while when they make say the second generation of these drives.
