A friend is using the following machine at work (specs indside), what can he buy?

I collected the following specs from a friends machine that he is using at work. So what can he buy to 'equal' his machine at work?

    ------------------
    System Information
    ------------------

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (5.0, Build 2195) Service Pack 3
    Language: English (Regional Setting: Spanish)
    System Manufacturer: IBM
    System Model: 686626U
    BIOS: IBM BIOS Ver PFKT38.0
Processor: Intel Pentium III Xeon, ~733MHz
    Memory: 512MB RAM
Page File: 267MB used, 980MB available
    Primary File System: NTFS
    DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0881)
    DX Setup Parameters: Not found
    DxDiag Version: 5.01.2600.0881 32bit Unicode

    ---------------
    Display Devices
    ---------------
Card name: 3Dlabs Wildcat Pro 4110
    Manufacturer: 3Dlabs
    Chip type: Wildcat Pro
    DAC type: ADV716x (220 MHz)

As you can see this machine is for desiging stuff; 3D studio, Macromedia products and Adobe products

Buying a Xeon and a 3Dlabs wildcat are expensive, but what can almost produce almost the same power. Like a p4 compared to this p3 xeon (as example). Or is the performance to great that there is no equal?

grab a P4-2.0 or better, 512/1024 MB of quick ram, a moderatly fast HDD, and a new springdale or canterwood board, and he'll be fine. Only thing he'll actually have to spend a decent chunk of cash on is a pro level vid card, because you can't skimp if you want really good openGL quality.
