HL...Too many jump puzzles?
I just finished Half-Life last night. While I enjoyed the game, and was beginning to think it was almost too long, my biggest complaint are the number of jump puzzles in the game. I don't mind the occasional jump puzzle, but this game just had too many for my liking. What are you thoughts?

Re: HL...Too many jump puzzles?
You know what, it's been so long since I've played it, that I don't remember any jump puzzles. At least I didn't get stuck on any long enough to remember. I guess that's a good thing, so I put just enough.
I hear HL2 won't have many jump puzzles at all. Good stuff.

I loved HL, but there were to many jump puzzles, particularly in Xen. Valve could of paired down Xen by a few chapters/jump puzzles and it would have improved the game. I don't think this will be a problem for HL2.

I dont think the game was too long. I finished both HL and Hl OF in two weeks of on and off playing. The jumping in the game wasnt too bad after I got used to it. Now I am playing blue shift. This has been the best $25 bucks I have ever spent on a game. If anyone hasnt played HL get the platinum pack for $25 at newegg. It is well worth it...
Oh I was playing on medium if anyone cares

Ya, Xen had a lot of them, and overall I felt the game could have been better with a few less jump puzzles.

Yup, it's been quite some time since I finished HL. But I do remember something (bad) about jumps, it's just part of the game after all

As I recall, the last part of the game was ALL jump puzzles

Ya, I actually started writing down the portal number, in the Lamda Core level, that I went through when I got the right one, so if I fell or had to go back I didn't have to go through trial and error again.

Man With Nothing To Lose
I thought Half-Life had a "just right" amount of jump puzzles, but Xen kind of overdid it. I didn't take that into account in my voting though. I think Xen was a step down in the gameplay quality compared to earlier levels in Half-Life.
It just didn't seem very polished and the game started to feel like a violent, first person version of Mario with all the jumping.

I certainly hope HL2 is more combat oriented (with allies helping you in the fray). I got goosebumps when I saw that last part of the HL2 video - the part where your're in that town, and those huge tripod walkers are around destroying buildings and such...Then you see a bunch of guys all running from one area screaming, shooting back at where they came from...then you see another walker blast a building section in half....God that was so cool looking...Even the sign was dangling and swaying realistically....The lighting looks so good....Mmmmm....I can't wait..
