    Fan adapters

Is it ok to use something like this? I'm looking at a specific Enermax fan that does 63CFM at 24.6db. Oops. This was supposed to go to the cooling forum

63 cfm - 26.4 dba??? I want one!!! LOL Where did you find that one?

We have used these adaptors and you do lose some air flow!

SVC's site has a warning about elictrical shock or something when useing the aluminum adapters!

We have the aluminum adapters too! They seem better but I don't like what SVC has posted about these adapters!

In general, the best way to avoid losing airflow is to find a taller adapter, the taller, the better.

SVC. I was looking at the plastic one. How much air flow? Even if your only getting 80% of normal air flow (normal fans are not perfect either) your still putting 50CFM on the HSF at 26.4db. Does a 120mm TMD fan exist? BTW the fan is an Enermax adjustable also at SVC. It does 63CFM at 26.4db and 94CFM at 30.1db!

Ugh. I've used a few 92-80mm adapters and they just made things worse.

Yea, it's best not to use fan adapters. They restrict airflow more than you think. But if your going for quietness and not performance, than go for it.

you could make your own, a homemade one that extended to the side of the case to a 120mm fan would do you wonders...

Ah yes, a duct would probably be very effective. Much moreso than just adding an adapter to increse the size of the fan.

Not to say adapters are all bad, I just haven't had any good experiences with them. I went from a 23CFM 60mm to a 52CFM 80mm with an adapter, and my temps increased 2c

That's more of a fan duct than an adapter and that would be pretty effective.
