Anybody know how soon the 4th generation of Seagate's 15K drives will be out? Thinking about getting another Cheetah, but I may wait...
I haven't heard anything on the 4th gen as the 3rd gen has only been out about 8-9 months, but the Maxtor 15k rpm drive is supposedly faster. I have to say, I'm very impressed with the new Atlas 10k IV and its pretty cheap ($180 for a 36gb drive). I'm very tempted on buying another one....

I dunno man, I am partial to Seagate. They have been making SCSI drives longer. I'd take Seagate's 3rd gen 15K drive over Maxtors 1st gen 15K drive just because of that (despite the marginal performance gain). Why not a 10K.6 over that atlas? They are 170 or so...

Well, I chose the Atlas 10kIV over the Seagate 10k6 because it benchmarked noticeably higher and has a lower noise platform. They both run hot (hotter than the 15k.3) but that's not a big deal. I've used the 10kIII's in the past and thought they were pretty good and never had any problems. Keep in mind that Maxtor is really Quantum when it comes to SCSI. I would never buy a Maxtor IDE drive again (had very bad luck with them).

I curently have 7 Cheetah drives on my workstation. I've been using Seagate SCSI drives since my 80386 box. I won't consider anything else.
