Man With Nothing To Lose
Memory Stick Support
I have a built-in MagicGate Memory Stick media slot on my Sony laptop, but I don't know if it supports the Memory Stick Pro technology. It supports regular memory sticks fine though.
I think most likely it doesn't, since I bought this laptop last year, before Memory Stick Pro was finalized. For those that don't know, in order to use Memory Stick Pro, you have to have a Pro enabled slot reader. Only the newest Sony cameras are Pro enabled.
Anyone know if the newer Sony laptops support Memory Stick Pro? All their specifications simply state Sony Memory Stick support.

Bump. Maybe this should have been in Mobile Computing?

That link helps greatly. After reading that I search on Sony's support site a bit more and found the Memory Stick software/firmware update patch.
Although the link you cited to doesn't include my laptop under the supported list for the Update patch, the download instructions for the Memory Stick software/firmware update patch said this would work on all Sony Vaio laptops with a built-in memory stick reader.
Too bad I don't have a Memory Stick Pro card to test it out on. Thanks for the help I think my problem is pretty much solved, or at least I'll find out when I buy a Memory Stick Pro card .
