Grinding sound on new seagate satas
I have two seagate 7200.7 SATA 120gigs on a Raid 0, and whenever I write to the arry, i get grinding noises. I think i hear it sometimes when I'm reading data from them too. Its not the normal click of death that you hear though. There is no way for me to find out if just one of them is doing it or both, as they are on a raid array. My 7200.7 IDE 40gig does not make these noises. Can anyone else that have these drives confirm that their's makes these sound also? It would suck if my new hds were already dead (I've had them for a few weeks, but they've been making this sound since i got them).

I got 2x80gb 7200 ATA and I have to admit they sometimes grind. Sometimes I think its just the cache emptying. I don't really get too fussed, since my PSU is even louder, heh. But I would say to get it looked at if you think they are faulty.

Yup, with the case open my RAID 120 gb Seagates make a wierd noise every minute or two, not really a grind, but kind of a whine that I first thought was an alarm on my UPS.

yeah, long as it isn't too bad. You know, that is how hard drive are supposed to sound. If that is when it is heavily reading or writing, it make a little grinding sound. But yeah, the 7200.7 drives aren't as quite as other Barracudas. But the sure are faster. I believe they are faster than WDs of the same capacity, definetly faster that my 80GB Speical Edition. I think those 200GB drivezillas are slightly faster though.

yeah they al make some noise, unless it is unbarably loud, or makes some clicking noise, I'd say it is fine. I'd have to hear it for sure though. Just a tip: always backup you data.

ya... backup isnt exactly possible since im running a raid 0. I'm probably going to pick up a dvd burner soon though, so i can back up things that i care more about.
