    XP Users/settings...

Basically, there is one user account on my XP, "Alex" i decided (i dont know why) to move the start menu items from my user account folder (under C:\Documents and settings\users\Alex etc) to 'All Users' including the start up folder, Well, now whener i start up, i get two instances of "Trillian" (the chat program i use on autostart) and "Open office quickstarter", when i deselect auto start functions, they dont start, but when i select autostart, i get two of them, its damn annoying. I dont know how to make it back to how it was, i remember my installed software folders in the start menu and stuff were divided between my user account and all users, but i dont know in which arrangement, can anyone tell me what i have done and how to fix it?

you have two instances of the shorcuts installed in the start menu probably. Delete one.

IF you are seeing two of everything in your start menus you will have delete the shortcuts.

im not seeing double, as i said, if i disable the progrma from autostarting, i get nothing, but if i enable it, i get a shortcut in the "all users" start up folder (which is a system folder and i take it XP reads from it to start up which ever programs are in it). then i get two instances trying to start up. Is there meant to be a start up folder in my user start menu folder? if there is, i dont get a start icon in it anyway, so that cant be the prob.

also how can i work out which start menu icons are ment to be where? as in installed programs etc. or doesnt it matter?

I seem to have gone 'around' the problem for now, creating my own regisrty startup key for Trillian, again, dont ask me how, i have never done anything like this before, i am fondling with my computer, when i havent a clue realy what i am doing! lol

but anyway, i think the problem is the way in which winodws is reading my startup folder, as its a systme folder, so that must have something todo with it. anyway, if anyone has any brainwaves as to what i did to it originally, then i would much appreciate any input. no doubt i will have to reinstall clean soon enough, i might be getting new HDD so prob will be no more. cheers anyway.
