Hammerhead Shark
Compact Flash Memory
Anyone have experience with different brands/sizes?
I was think of getting a 512MB from crucial, is that too much for the camera (will I need to wait 10 seconds for it to write when I take a picture)?
Thanks.

Your write times shouldn't vary with the size of your CF module. Some brands of CF modules are faster than others, but most cameras have a RAM buffer so that you can take another shot even before the camera's done writing the previous picture to CF.

they should all be pretty much the same, unless you get those ultra ones that sandisk make that read/write much faster (supposedly)

Actually, SanDisk makes some of the slowest CF modules on the market, and even their "ultra" models aren't all that fast. dpreview.com has a page devoted to comparing speeds of various CF models. If you're interested, check it out HERE.

thanks for pointing that out skydog
I've been under the apperantly mistaken impression for a while that sandisk made the best flash memory.

The news isn't entirely bad for SanDisk... Their CF cards may be slow, but they seem to have very few compatibility problems in my experience. If you check device manufacturers' pages for CF compatibility, SanDisk cards are almost always listed as compatible while other brands may not be.

GO BENGALS!!!!!
I have had very good luck with SanDisk CompactFlash cards with using them with my Canon Powershot A40. The size on the CF card will not affect the performance of it.

I've noticed that my 128MB Sony Memory Sticks reads and writes slower than my 16MB Sony Memory Stick. Anyone else have similar experiences with increases in Flash memory size?
The lag times are pretty noticeably, since it takes a good while longer to access the pictures from my Memory Stick slot on my laptop, and saving pictures on the camera is somewhat slower than my 16MB stick. The camera lag is not very noticeable, but I did feel a difference after upgrading to my 128MB stick.
