Need your help with cyber stalker....
Hey all, I'm hoping someone here can give me a hand with this. My younger sister has been getting threatening messages from someone on her MSN Messenger (death threats actually). She has no idea how he got added to her contact list and she has no idea who it is. She hasn't blocked him yet because I would really like to find out who this dipsh*t is. The only thing listed on his profile is his hotmail address. Is there any way to find out/track his IP address? We will probably be contacting police anyway as there are threats of physical harm involved, but I really, really would like to find out where these are coming from if possible before we take that step. Thanks in advance for your help on this.

Archive everything and contact the police right away.
There is no way you can find the real identity of the perpetrator without a court order and/or the cooperation of MSN and whoever the ISP is that holds the perp's IP address..

I second that, especially contacting the police. A lot of the time its just some kid effing around, but there is that small chance someone out there is really that crazy, it happens. Better safe than sorry, especially in todays world.

Take a screen shot of the next message and then take that to the police and file a complaint. Then start keeping a log and taking screen shots. Once a week takes these to the police and keep asking to see someone higher up.

GO BENGALS!!!!!
If somehow you can get the person to email you or your younger sister, then you can get there IP Address and start tracking them.

A sniffer running at the time a popup messages occurs should reveal the IP from whence it came.
Here is a sniffer you may want to try. I have not looked at it, but it has a good reputation.

I've used ettercap, and it works well. You should be able to easily grab the source IP address. With that address, the exact time, and a subpoena, that person's ISP would probably be more than happy to tell a law enforcement agency whose account they're using.
