good ol Master of Orion
Hey all, just found my Master of Orion floppies lying around somewhere. Been quite a few years since I've used these bad boys. Problem is that the game won't work since I'm using win2k. Is there anything that will let me get this game working? Anything anyone knows? !!??
Gotta play moo!
Thanks,

Yeah, MOO is an awesome game... too bad the most recent incarnation was so disappointing. Anyway, have you tried running it in a compatibility mode? Try going as low as it'll go.
The Sweetness:
* Intel Pentium 4 2.4C @ 2.88 (12x240)
* ABIT IC7 w/1GB PC3500 DDR
* SLK 900-U w/Vantec Thermoflow 92x25mm Fan
* Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro (440/370)
* Raidmax Black Mid P4 350W ATX Case
Whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger. Not lifting weights doesn't kill me. Therefore not lifting weights makes me stronger.

dont know what yer talkin about compatibility mode, but when I run orion.exe I get a message telling me I need 1024kb of expanded memory. I just remember that back in those early days, you could always manipulate autoexec.bat and config.sys to squeeze memory out where ya needed it, can't do that in win2k =(.

ope, just saw someone talking about compatibility when ya click the properties of the .exe file, but I did that and don't have a compatability tab in there.
er just found the expanded memory part, but now I can't run it correctly. It opens to a black screen then closes again right away.
Solving this thing one step at a time...anyone know what to do from here??

one more good step! I changed the expanded memory to 1024, instead of from none to auto, and it worked. Now when I run the game, it tries a little harder to open, then closes with the message 'reconfigure hardware options'. Anyone know what I should reconfigure here?
thanks

umm... the hardware options? In a lot of the old games you had to manually set the hardware that you had. If you're still having troubles do a search in google groups for running MOO.
