Quite Fans, Soundproofing - Antex sx1040b

You guys might have seen my post in this completly custom forums about being bored and modding my case. I think i am eventually just going to save for a koolance case or some other case and then move to water cooling. But for now, i think someone mentioned that the antec case i have ( sx1040b server ) if i replaced the stock antec fans with other fans, they would be quiter and move more air. What fans would be better and quieter then the stock antec fans? ALso i want to soundproof the inside of my case, (* the top and left door panel ) to try to deaden the sound of the smartcase fan 2. Have you guys ever heard of anyone doing this? and how effective is this? Thanks in advance for the advice! thanks!

Also if i get a nexus fan controller, will i be able to hook up my thermal take smart case fan 2 to it because it already has its own fan controller? Also the other 3 fans i have? thanks.

Don't use the nexus with the smart fans. I have 2 superHigh output 80mm panaflos and 3 high output panaflos. Very good case fans. Supers are louder. The High output are a good compromise between cooling and quiet.

Yes, you can hook all four fans into the Nexus and it would be a good idea too. The TTSF2 can be set to full speed and then controlled by the Nexus. Where's the third case fan? If its a front panel intake you probably won't need it. Before you go out and buy more fans, I'd go with the two supplied Antec fans on the rear panel hooked into the Nexus along with the TTSF2 at first and see how quiet things get by turning them all down with the Nexus controller and see how your case temp goes. If case temp is too high with the fans quiet you'll need better fans, but that can come later.

Thats good i can do that. I have that speed control program, but i can only control the speed of my thermaltake smart case fan 2, and i keep it at like 10 % speed and it stays at like 40c. I have one fan down in the front bottom of the case pulling in air through the case and to the 2 exhaust fan in the back. What do you mean i wont need it? I really shouldnt have to keep my case fans at full speed should i? Does the case temp matter that much? What should it be ? Also one last question, will my door close on my case with that fan controller? Thanks!

More than likely, all that front panel fan is contributing is noise, LOL.

Case temp matters a lot! Perfect case temp is = room temp, but practical case temp is 2-4c over room temp. Any higher you'll best be served by modding in a top panel 120mm exhaust fan.

Probably not, so you'll have to mount the Nexus controller recessed into the bay a little but yet close enough to the front so you can still grasp the knobs.

Air can pull through that front panel of my case, you can put your hand in front of the case and feel the air being pulled in, so how is that not doing anything, pulling in cooler air then whats already in there. I think my case is around even with what my room is ( 75f )so thats pretty good. Thanks. Oh yea also, any noise deading products anyone recommends to line some of the inside of my case with?

I wouldn't waste your money on that stuff. The best thing you can do is add small rubber grommets to your fans. Basically anything that is touching metal and spinning will create a vibration in your case, so rubber grommets will lessen the vibration.

Well, just try it both ways -- with and without front panel fan, you might like running with no front panel fan, less noise potential. And you'll probably discover, especially in that case, that your case temp is lower WITHOUT the front panel intake fan. Forget the sound absorbing stuff, attack the real problem, fan noise and vibration. Thin rubber grommets on the floppy, CD, and HDs too.
