    bf1942 - worst interface ever!

    <rant>

    Holly mother of duckman, bf1942 interface annoys the heck out of me! I have to wait 20 seconds to find out a game is full? Another 20 seconds to find out that the game is password protected. And the worst yet, the game ends and a new map begins to start loading - well it's just faster to do a ctrl-alt-del end task, if I'm able to. Hitting quit game takes forever - and then "are you sure you want to quit" - of course I'm damn well sure!!! What a brutally annoying interface!!!!

    As far as finding online games goes, I never use the built-in browser. The All Seeing Eye is the only way to go. You can tell if a server is full before even joining, and if it is full it will keep trying to join the server (w/o launching the game) until a slot is open and then it will connect you.

    If you're in between loading maps and want to quit just hit escape, and it should take you right back to the start screen.

    You haven't lived until you've used 'All seeing eye' like JustWhitman mentioned..

    Forget the crappy horrible in-game browser..

    Really? I quite liked the original Unreal Tournament's browser. Seems like I was up and fraggin' (or being fragged) in no time.

    I don't particularly like using third party programs to find servers. The ingame browser works just fine for me and I play the game fairly regularly*.

    Is there still a free version of ASE? I noticed on their website that it costs $30 lifetime which is pretty good. I thought there was a free version though.

    Mr Cherry do you post on other bf1942 forums as Tiny God? I notice that's what you call ur rig.

    Maybe I'll try this ASE thing.

    Hitting escape between map loads doesn't really work. Maybe it's just cuz my computer is too slow, but generally by the time i get the game menu, it starts "connecting" to the game server (why does it have to reconnect?). This kicks me out of the game menu and into the "connecting" screen, so that I have to hit escape again which again seems like it takes a million years to bring up the game menu. Then I can hit quit, if it doesn't start loading the map before that and click on "yes I'm sure".

    Want to know what a really good interface is? Warcraft III. You can quit the game from within a game! Now that's thinking. Good job Blizzard. That's the thing about Blizzard games, they're so finely tuned - every aspect of the game is purely flawless. The game may be years late, but at least it's solid.

    Nope, I go by CrushedBiPlane there, I post often. I also post here http://forums.acomba.de/index.php? which is where a lot of the BF1942.com people moved over to this week.

    As for quitting the game quickly, try Alt+F4. Drops me right to the desktop everytime.
