    Which memory? I'm confused

I plan on buying 1GB of memory for my ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe board (which will run an OC'd XP2500+ once I get it). I was looking at some people's sigs and noticing the different brands they had. I also look at what the Sharky's Guide for July's High End gaming system had for its memory from Corsair. Where should I get memory from and what would be the best for my system? I was confused by all the different types of memory Corsair had. 400MHz clocked DDR ram? Would that work in my system w/ my mobo? I want DDR ram at the fastest possible speed I can have so my system has no bottlenecks!

This post is in relation to this website.

    Thanks.

I have the same setup as you in the computer i'm building. Can't wait to get my cpu either. have all but that and the ram. But I'm gonna go with a stick of 512mb PC3200 Kingston HyperX because it seems like the cheapest best quality ram I can find. Only $109 right now at Xtreme Gear, and the 2500+ is only like $84 there too, good deals, better than newegg. You could go for the 3500 too if you wanted more headroom i guess.

From what I understand the best ram brands are Kingston (HyperX), Corsair (XMS), Crucial, and if you really want high end stuff, Mushkin.
    ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
    AMD Athlon 2500+ "Barton" 1.83ghz
    Thermalright SK-7 and TT SmartFan2
    Corsair XMS 512mb 3200
    ATi Radeon 9500 Pro 128mb
    Maxtor 120gb 8mb cache
    17" Samsung SyncMaster 753DF

I wouldn't go with less than 2 sticks of 256 PC3200. You need 2 sticks to be able to run in dual channel mode and I wouldn't think you would want to give up the performance benifit of dual channel ram. PC3200 is the highest rating that board officially supports, but if you're gonna overclock I would go with PC3500, or PC3700. The faster ram will elliminate the chance that your ram will hold your system back when overclocking. As far as brands, I like OCZ, Geil and TwinMos. Corsair XMS is also good ram.

    Thumbs up

I say go with Crucial (Micron) or Sammy (Samsung) two of the few true memory manufacturers. Other vendors take ram chips from manufacturers
(like Crucial or Samsung) put it with some other manufacturers pcb and call themselves manufacturers.

There only true manufacturers of complete ram sticks including the pcb are:

    Crucial/Micron
    Samsung
    Hitachi
    Hyundai

Biostar TA 880 / AMD Phenom 55 BE UNLOCKED x4
    4 Gigs Corsair
Arctic Freezer 64 Pro Cooling- Idle 42C-Load 48C
    Coolermaster Pro 600 power supply
    Coolermaster Cavalier ATX Case
    Western Digital 250 Gig SATA3 HDD/OS Vista Business SP2
    Galaxy GT 240 512 DDR5
    Samsung Writemaster w/Lightscribe
    HP 25"
    Logitech G5
    Klipsch Promedia 2.1's

You can look at this another way also. OCZ, Corsair, Geil and Kingston may get their memory modules from these manufacturs, but the ram they buy goes through intensive quality control and they only take the best. Samsung is probably the biggest supplier out there, but their memory they sell to the public is not the best quality. The good stuff goes out to other ram manufactures. How many people do you here about getting great OC's out of Samsung memory? I had some and it sucked.
