Is there a cheaper answer to laptop/notebook computing?
I have a desktop, but a laptop would help me out a lot when Im at uni, and of course being a student, my budget is very low. I have seen the cheapest laptop availible to UK (as far as I have looked) is about £500 for XP1700 and 128mb RAM. Is there anyway to reduce cost further? without having to buy second hand (as I have seen people still over charge for secondhand laptops/notebooks), or am I asking too much? lol

Notebook machines are made of proprietary hardware, thus the high cost. The cost of a notebook has been halved over the past couple of years due to larger volumes.

I was in the same position as you are. First i tried to find a new laptop that would meet my specifications, but i found none at the price i was willing to pay.
I was looking at
Fujitsu-Siemens C1050
IBM R40e
HP Omnibook 6100 (i would have bought it, but all shops that sold it at a resonable price ran out of them before i got my paycheck )
So i swalowed my pride and started looking for second hand laptops. I finally found one yesterday that met my demands.
I got a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook E-6624
933MHz P3
512MB PC-133
14,1" XGA
Mobility Raedon M6 (16MB DDR)
20GB HDD
Price: 850€
It´s about a year and a half old, so it´s got another year and a half factory warranty. I´ve played arround with it today and i love it, apart from some scratches in the magnesium case it´s in perfect condition .
I bought it from a company that buys computers from other companies when they upgrade their computers, so if i was you i would start to look for good second hand laptops.

Do you mind telling me where you bought your laptop from?
