Personally, I think there is a sizeable difference between any TI card and a 9800nonpro.

You can get a nonpro for $250 and sell that ti4600 for maybe half of that. So for only $125 you can get a really nice increase in eyecandy.

I'd do that in a second.

Agreed, especially when the AA + AF gets turned on. I couldn't turn AA on at all with my old Ti4400, or games would just crawl along and I would get unbearable skipping. Now I can play every game I own with atleast 4xAA @ 1024x768. Most of them play fine at 1280x960 with 6xAA, plus now I see the whole IQ difference everyone was talking about

Not to start up here, but what if AA/AF isn't that much of a concern? (Yes, it's blasphemy....)

The funny thing is....AA/AF will eventually be the norm. The argument over AA/AF is much like the argument way back when over 32 bit vs 16 bit.

Everyone was saying that 16 bit was just fine and you didn't need 32.

Who runs 16 bit now? No one.

The same will be with AA/AF. Like it or not, it's here to stay and will eventually be the norm just like 32bit.

I just can't fathom how someone does not care about AA or AF. They make such a huge difference in image quality.

I agree. It's just that I see people (not many) who do indeed speak of AA/AF beng 'overrated' - and that doesn't even include our fave 3DMarker....

Just as we saw people saying 32 bit is overrated.

Within 2 years time, every one will be running AA/AF. Whether they think so now or not. It is becoming the new standard.

It's only recently that I play games with aa/af on , never thought it makes a difference but it DOES! Unreal II looks stunning with aa/af on (I enable 4xAA/4xAF only at 1024x768 ). I believe my rig is capable of higher but I don't wanna (I'm already getting creamed badly while I'm stupidly watching the gorgeous scenery ) One thing I've learnt, AA/AF has ruined my gameplay (not that I'm good in the first place )

It does make a difference, especially for the Radeons. Once I got use to using AA, it was hard to go without. Upping the resolution does help, but I'm pretty sensitive to the stair stepping on edges.

Mystif, If it means anything to you, with my 9700 Pro I play PS at full details (max everything in the options) at 1600x1200 and the frames are so smooth I'm just about to turn on the FSAA and AF.

After I upgrade my CPU/Mobo (maybe ram) I will see if I still feel I need a new card... if so I will probably get a 9800NP.

Secondly, what PS servers do you play on and what's your player name? I play on Emerald as TR under mystifmagic.

On the note of the 9800NP, which brand should I buy? ATI has a few companies who make their cards, however I'm not sure which to buy if I decide to upgrade my card.

They are the main OEM manu/assembler for 'Built by ATI' too.

Exact same card as the 'Built by ATI' ones.

I wish someone with a gigacube 9800 non pro would inlighten the forums with what kind of ram it has..... It could be 2.8,3.0,3.3....
If i knew that card had 2.8 i would have gotten it over the sapphire, but no one has one so i don't know!
