    AMD Retail fan specs???

    does anyone know the specs on the amd retail fan? its green, about 10mm thick and came with the retail xp1700.

    i dont need good cooling so i was gonna use the stock hsf but its kinda loud (buzzy). I pulled an old 60mm fan out of my compaq and its really quiet but i dont wanna use it if its alot weaker than the stock fan.... the specs on this fan is

    "Fonsan 60x60x20mm DFD0612L
    12v, 12.4cfm, 23dB, 3150rpm"
    bitfenix prodigy, i5 4670k, asrock z87e-itx, zotac gtx 970, crucial m500 msata, seasonic x650, dell st2220t

    im not sure of the exact specs, but the older ones e.g. the ones for the palmino core spun at about 6000rpm the newer ones for the barton core spin at around 4800rpm. it also depends on how fast you have your pc clocked. if you are trying to overclock then it will be a problem, if not your cpu will run hotter, but i dont think it will do any harm

    Mine is a 60x15 spinning at about 4600rpms or so. Stock cooling is really bad!!!!!!!!!

    12 CFM.. thats not gonna cool 486

    Yeah the fan on the retail heatsink sucks. It gets the job done, and I overclocked my 2000+ to 2100+ on a whim, I'm sure I could go higher but don't care to, running at 35C-39C load temp. If you can upgrade to a better fan do it, also the heatsink itself is cheap and all aluminum but when you get right down to it if you aren't going to overclock there's not going to be a problem.

    Edit: and yeah it's plenty to cool a stock (or close to it) 486

    I would only use that Compaq fan if you have excellent case cooling...even then I wouldn't do it. I think the reduced cfms will come back and haunt you. The stock HSF is made for keeping temps under max load, nothing more. Its a wimpy aluminum heatsink too. No harm in trying it I guess.
