The Medieval Mod
fixing old computer, REAL slow boot
specs:
Pentium 2 350Mhz
64MB
98SE
that's all I know
I have installed:
-StartupCLP 2.8
-Ad-ware6 (up to date)
-Norton Utilities 2002 (windoctor and speed disk [defrag])
-Norton AV 2002 (up to date)
windows seems to run ok, after installing/using those programs. But when you turn on the machine, the windows screen stays there for 3-5 minutes, after that it seems normal
any ideas?

Let me guess here...
Could be your antivirus software delaying startup. Try disabling it temporarily.
Could be a network latency issue, if your computer has to request an IP address because it's on a network.
Check the hard drive activity LED and see if there's any action.

my first guess would be that it's gagging on all that norton stuff.
one stick of ram or two? maybe if 2, one is bad or isn't seated right.

You could try removing the windows logo while loading windows. That would give a small boost.

The Medieval Mod
thanks guys for the advice!
I tried each part, but I don't know how to remove the windows logo at startup.
The computer began to have more serios errors, like not being able to open explorer, not even START menu, I will just reformat and reinstall.. but first I need to find the drivers for the hardware
