Will this case support the fans I want?

    Hello!

I'm just trying to tie the knots towards this new system I am planning on building, just need an OK now about the case from you folks. I plan on getting the case I have listed HERE . I was told however that that case only supports 25mm width fans when I plan on buying some Vantec Tornado's for it. He told me that the fans may/will not fit? Is that true? If so, what case would you guys recommend?

Hopefully ordering system parts very soon (dammit waiting and getting ok's is the hardest part )

    Dave!!!

Whoa, that is going to be one LOUD case!

Five Tornados(38mm too) and that CPU fan! I hope you are prepared...its going to sound like a jet engine.

The 38mm fans might work, the little clip just might be able to be stretched out a little. You could probably break it off too and be fine. You can always use duct tape. I'd juts get the 25mm to make it more convenient, but that's just me. I'd also be worried about vibrations on that.

The larger problem I see is that you are going to have three Tornados coming in and only two going out-that's way out of proportion. It would be fine if there was more exhaust, but this is only going to blow around hot air. Posititve pressure is a iffy subject, but this is defenitely taking it too far. I would recommend not using the side-panel fan slot. Populate the two intakes and the two exhausts. That will give you some awesome case cooling.

Well thank ya! First off, I know its going to be loud but I can handle that. Now, explain to me - you said 38mm fans? What exactly are you talking about. I thought the Tornado's were 80mm? You were talking about getting 25mm fans - what do you mean? I still want the Vantec Tornado's! And as for the 5 case fans... you think it would be better for just 2 front intakes and 2 rear exhausts? I was going to set it up as 2 front intakes, 1 side intake, and 2 exhaust - but since you are more experienced on the subject your help is appreciated - try and explain to me everything you meant from 25mm fans to the positive pressure like I'm a n00b at this ****. :P

Ok newsflash. Friend told me that the Antec have snap-in fans!!! !!! So, how about the LianLi PC-65 instead? That has a window :-P - and I like the fact (even tho the Antec had that locking door thing) that I wouldn't have that locking thing so I could see the glowing from the Nexus. That would only mean I'd need 4 Vantec fans... I'm not seeing however how the depth between the 38mm and the 25mm would really effect anything. If its that bad, I could move to the Panaflo Super Hight Output, but thats about half the CFM of air - and I know its loud but I don't give a damn!

    Whatcha think bout that eh!?

38mm profile. The fans that come with any case are 25mm. They are both 80mm fans though. Its just that the ones you chose are 80x80x35. The ones that are mean't to fit are 80x80x25. You will have WAY too much air coming into the case than exiting, thus blowing around hot air. Positive case pressure = more intake than exhaust. Here is another concern I have about the side-panel intake(only because its a high power fan like the Tornado though)-it blows really hard on the motherboard...where does it go after that? I think its just going to be too much undirected air. Stick with the two exhausts and intakes.

Do you mean you Nexus rheobus(fan speed controller)? You won't see anything from your window. Honestly, if noise is not a concern-I'd get what you had planned, but change the Tornados to 80x80x25 and only get four of them. You would also need to buy a PSU with the LianLi too.

I know I'd need a PSU with either case, but I just thought the Antec was cheaper. But now that I may be planning on actually FINISHING this upgrade project near Q1 of 2004 (heh), I may hold off on what case to get. I can get a new motherboard, cpu, memory, etc - and just hold off w/ cases until time gets near when I plan on putting it all inside the case. I just heard tho that Antec was kind of a "cheap" brand compared to the LianLi.

Also, do they make 80x80x25 Tornado's w/ the same CFM? Like I said man, noise is not a concern in the least.

Oh, and its the Fan controller I listed here: http://mypage.iu.edu/~dawesten/bps/dreammachine.html

Thanks for all your help you are helping me decide my dream rig

I could have sworn that there were 80x80x25 Tornados, but SVC doesn't have it either. Guess I was wrong. You can mod the 38mm to fit anyway. Antec makes amazing cases and PSUs...where did you hear that they were cheap? Compared to anyone even! Look at Newegg to find an Antec case and PSU combo. IMO, LianLi and Coolermaster cases are way overpriced. You won't see the lights on the fan controller either if you get a case with a window. Just buy come cold cathodes from SVC and you'll be good.
