why would anyone buy the mx440 with the other two choices?
Now why did you tell him that? Now he has to rush out and go get those.

"sorry, i am motivated by cutting edge and beating the MAN. prommies help. clocking a barton 2500+ to 2.9gig rocks, clocking a P133 to 166 in todays environment, well, maybe an extreme example, but you get my drift, comparitively speaking."

Lets go by percentage overclock. xp2000 at 1.66GHz to 2.47 is a 48.8% which is amazing! xp2500s should be 1.83GHz thus you got 58.5% overclock, also amazing, even on a prometeia a 133MHz pentium at 200MHz is a 50% overclock. likewise with a 300a at 450 celeron It seems to be far more popular to use old video cards on cutting edge rigs than vice versa. If you got an mx440 as bragging rights, you should break 10k easy with that monster rig, but my bet is you dont care about 3dmark otherwise youd be in the top 5 easy

"and it doesn't change the fact that the game relies heavily on the use of pixel and vertex shaders...a mx440 will run doom 3...but don't expect any detail setting to run the game fine...unless it's the lowest..."

The mad dog mx440s supposedly overclock very well, dont forget to factor that insane overclocks. even with a 2x2 core at 400MHz, this may match a stock ti4200 at 4x2, also dont forget ram bandwith. a good mx440 at 400/700 should match a stock ti4200, right or not? I wouldnt know for sure so go easy there also cant a fast cpu do vertex shaders anyway?

"along with lack of direct x 8 support...I honestly don't see why anyone would recommend a mx440 at this point...unless they like to spend money on outdated hardware and like to upgrade often..."

the lack of dx8 is the one thing that really hurts but however for todays and yesterdays games, dx7 is all you need anyway and $50 for a card with half GHz ram........thats ti4200 bandwith right there dude.

"I have an mx440 and can give first hand opinions, it sucks!"

you probably got the mx440-se with 64 bit ram, the 128 bit verson runs my games a little slower than a ti4200, perhaps 2/3

"theres an asus 64mb ti4200 for $69 after rebates at fry's

if they dont happen to live in California, over here in florida its either $50 for the mx440, $100 for the fx5200, $169 for a 9600 pro or $300 for a 9800 non pro, oh $199 for a 256mb fx5600. some choice we have unless we turn to ebay which many refuse to buy from.

memory bandwidth is of course important...but the lack of 4 pipelines is what will really limit it...and cpu's can do vertex shaders but when the video card does them they are generally a lot more faster...and when you have the cpu do the vertex shader instructions...it leaves it less time to do ai and physics and geometry...

sure dx7 based cards is all you need but the mx440 will definately struggle and of course it won't look nearly as good without the shaders...bandwidth does not mean you'll get good performance...the tweaks and optimizations found in the ti4200 core are probably not found in the mx440 core...

agreed, its obvious the mx core cant match a ti's core, but when you oc an mx440 to 400MHz core, wont it match a stock ti4200s 250MHz core still? I cant even find geforce4 ti4200s in stores anymore and the $50 mx440 is ok for those who hate ordering online I guess. also for those who dont care about high res gaming either, and finally its great for 3dmark whores since the ram on the mad dog is faster than on other mx440s

you missed the point. the comparision, that is. i wasn't talking about percentage of overclockage. i was talking about 'who cares'!!!!!!!! ancient history>>>>>>>>>> again 'who cares' with the outdated parts????

How about the Radeon 9000 for $55, 9000 Pro for $60, and 9100 for $65 from newegg? Those will all spank the mx440, simply because they DO have DX8 hardware.

I think the real question here, is what is 50 dollars worth to you.

Let's just say, he's not interested in the other cards that are clearly a better deal. Why buy a mx440 when...
    1. You already have one
    2. It may or may not change your 3d mark score buy 1000
    3. A score increase of 1000 in the real world performance is not that significant.

I'm not trying to bash ya, it just seems odd that you are purchasing this card solely to say, I broke 9k. I can understand people buying real expensive cards to go for an insane high score to break 20k, but seriously, who cares if you break 9k. Its been done many times before. If you suceed, no one here is likely to care.

I would save that 50dollars and all the other money your wasting on these sup par cards, and save up for a real card like other people sugest.

Don't you want to play games the way they are meant to be played?

I bought one 3 months ago from Compusa in NJ for the same price .It was a gf4mx 440 with 8x support. It was made by mad dog multimedia.
Is that the card youre referring to? and how can i find out if the mem is 64 bit or 128 bit?

if it says mx440se its 64 bit. download powerstrip and it should be clocked at 270/500 then see how far it overclocks. The last guy got it to 320/720

If anyone does want to order online, others only buy from stores. also in dx7 games the mx440 may own. and im not getting another mx440, at least not for now

havent replied here in a while but, now I see why. Although some people who might want to run a few games a nd get a value card, people who will O/C there card (IE computer hobbiest) will get somethign alot better. **** 3d mark. I go out and play a game instead of watching uninteractive video and a fps marker. I forgot my 3dmark score. thats hwo much I care about it. I get 60+fps on BF1942 with all settings maxed and 1600x1200 and I am good! go sell all your cards and get a 9800! if you really want to do stuff like 3d mark stop setting yourself to slow hardware!
