Help me troubleshoot this system
Hi,
I am assembling this system :
1.VIA KT4A mobo
2.AMD 2.8
3.ATI 9500pro
4.80GB maxtor
5.300WATT psu with case
6.2x256DDRAM 333
the problem is that I never used or assembled AMD b4 and dont have another AMD machine to troubleshoot and find the defected part
my problem is like this :
(everything is installed properly.. when I turn it on the following happens :
1.no monitor output BLACK what so ever
2.the keyboard lights (numlock, capslock etc) all locked
3.the harddisk is working good (the normal sound u get upon switch on ur pc)
4.I dont know anything cos the bios wont show up the screen is blank
5. the VGA crad fan is running, the cpu fan too..
6.no beeps from the board or strange sounds at all
now which part is defected? the CPU? or the VGA card? or the mobo???
the mobo is jumperless all is configured by bios...
any IDEA?? sadly this PC is for a friend he asked me to do it for him and I dont have another working AMD around any Ideas on troubleshooting this system?
Thanx in advance
note ... I never had such bad experience with Intel products not on boards nor cpus I hope this not AMD!!!
the cpu looks ok not broken not used b4
any ideas?

You cant blame something until you know what is causing the problem.
Most likely culprits are:
1. RAM
2. Video Card
3. Motherboard
DO you have a good stick of RAM you can swap out to make sure its not that? Or if you have 2 DIMMS, just use one for testing purposes.
Same thing with the vid card, put a known good vid card in and see if that fixes anything. Also make sure the monitor you are using works too!
I have yet to see a bad CPU in my 15+ years of computing (I know they are out there!) so more than likely its another system component. Make sure everything is "seated" correctly (CPU, RAM, Cards, Power connectors) and try again
AMD X2 4400+
Asus A8V Deluxe
Corsair XMS(twin)LL PC3200-2Gb (4x512Mb)
Sapphire Radeon X800-XT PE
19" Hyundai L90D+ LCD
WD Raptor Sata 36.7's (x2)- RAID-0
WD 80GB 7200rpm - 8mb cache
SB Audigy2
Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1's
ATC-200 Alum. Case from cooler master! w/ 4 fans
Antec NeoPower 480W
Powerware 3110 550VA UPS

the RAM is ok I tried them...
every thing is properly installed
I suspect the VGA or mobo or CPU
If the VGA is damaged would it harm my system (p4) if I plug it in???
is it possible for the 8X card to run on my old i845 chipset (also ,may be 3 volt vs .8 volt) so I am afraid to try the card on my pc
the other weird thing is the keyboard the num light, caps are all locked the keyboard is not reponding
I can try each part in my pc except the cpu and mobo
but can i safely try the VGA?

Re: Read
hmm this didnt answer my Qs
1.does a damaged VGA harm a working mobo
2.is the .8/1.5 volt ATIr9500pro compatable with my old i845 chipset or not (some say different AGP volt mite harm the mobo
3.these symptoms r they cpu fail, or mobo or VGA???
thanx
