Add/Remove Programs and Balloon Tips Registry Keys.

Hey guys, where is the registry key to remove balloon tips in Windows XP at? And what do I modify in this key? I remember reading this somewhere in the boards but I can't seem to find it again.

Also I knew there was a registry key you could edit when you cant remove a program from the Add/Remove programs list (you know, when it still stays in the list after you have already removed it)

If anyone knows how to edit both of the keys (balloon tips and add/remove "stuck" programs in list) it would be greatly appriciated.

    Thanks to anyone.

    (No TweakUI links please..)

    Add/Remove Programs: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/110/

Finally add http://www.winguides.com/registry/ to your favorites, two quick searches and I had your answers

Hmm odd, the balloon tips page must be outdated.

There is no key for EnableBalloonTips

Maybe it's cuz I use XP-SP1, I remember awhile back there was some guy who posted about the key called "StartButtonBalloonTip", in which I do see here. But what value should I add into StartButtonBalloonTip

I dont see the one they are talking about on that link you gave me, I think it's outdated...

    HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Adva nced
Click the Edit menu, point to New and click DWORD Value.
Rename the new value to EnableBalloonTips and press [ENTER].
The default value is 0 and you want to leave it that way. Close the Registry editor and restart the computer.
    No more BALLOON TIPS!

Maybe I have no idea what the hell Balloon Tips are.

I did the above and it still doesn't work.

I'm thinking of those damn.........YOU HOVER YOUR CURSOR OVER AN ICON AND YOU GET THE DETAILS

I HOVER MY CURSOR OVER THE START MENU AND I SEE THIS STUPID THING THAT SAYS (CLICK HERE TO BEGIN)

I hover my cursor over any file and this gey f*king tip pops up and shows a file path or information or whatever.

I think you are confusing balloon tips with tool tips.

Balloon tips are those annoying baloons that pop up when certain events occur such as network disconnect and network connect.

Tool tips are the balloons that pop up when you point to something with your mouse such as an icon in the system tray or an icon in a tool bar.

If you want to eliminate the pop up descriptions for folders and desktop items, that is controlled with a setting in Windows Explorer.

Go to Control Panel/Folder Options/View/Uncheck the box for "Show pop up descriptions for folders and desktop items. I can't help you with the click here to begin popup.

If it's enabled, when you install new programs and the move your cursor over the "All Programs" button in the start menu. A ballon would popup say "New programs are installed", or something to that effect. Duh. It also enabled the popups for quick launch Icons.

Edit: Here's that thread I think you were looking for.

LOL thanks guys. So it's TOOLTIPS! not balloon tips..

    *feels incredibly stupid now*

However, there is still NO way to remove the tooltips for everything it seems....

Lets say I hover my cursor over the start menu button, or even hover the pages listed in my favorites drop-down list in IE (tooltips pop up showing the url of my favorites) it still shows those..

At least it removed "some" of the tooltips..

    Thanks for everything!
